So I've tried the three big ones now. There are claims made all over the place. Some still argue that Firefox is fastest. While Many people now believe firefox hogs too much memory is is thus slower than IE7. I'm currently using opera and this feels decent as well. For those who have had experience with all three, which is faster? |

Internet Explorer is slow, prone to too many threats, but can be fast for just one window browsing.
Firefox offers tabs and many, many extensions and themes. Problem is it does hog memory at times and can be slow thanks to that.
Opera is freakishly fast and has tabs plus widgets, which are much like Firefox's extensions. I just don't like using Opera that much if I can avoid it. |

I agree mostly with rdrake, although I don't understand why he tends to shy away from Opera. However, I find that FF has more extensions (readily) available, and is therefore easier to use. |

I like Firefox, Im used to it and it works well for me (on linux it worked superb , not so well on windows, in fact its been giving me some really annoying problems, like losing all of my bookmarks! But I do'nt use windows that often anymore). Also, Firefox has several extensions that I used often while building websites, so it comes real handy, makes work easier too
I tried Opera, it definitely is fast (same as Firefox to me tbh) but I'm not used to it, don't feel comfortable using it.
As for IE, I only use it to get Windows Updates |

I'm a pure Mozilla fan, as a matter of fact. it should be part of the "top browsers" its more reliable than FF. though not as flashy. and i also like |

Firefox isn't slow. Virtual memory is slow, and people who use windows end up needing to use virtual memory (windows does strange things with memory management). If you have more memory then firefox is fast
I sue Firefox; I tried Opera but I found the interface to be opposite to what I found natural. IE is a) windows only (bad!) b) closed source (bad for other reasons, but understandable) and c) crap. IE support for standards is almost next to non-existent.
Mozilla is just too slow; too bulky and too ugly for me to ever use it. |

Firefox is where it's at.
Mozilla is good too, but it's slower and has some stuff which I don't need, so I switched to Firefox.
Opera, for me, similarily to what people have mentioned above, has a counter intuitive interface... Or at least, it's harder to use than Firefox and I see no reason to switch. |

That was the main thing that caused me to switch. It sucks having to look through pages and pages of search results only to have firefox lose it for you. Oh and if you're wondering, I made a batch file that deletes all cookies, history, and stuff in the TEMP file so thats not an option. |

how does making a batch file that deletes your TEMP file impede your switching to firefox i might nbe missing something here, but this is not a viable excuse. |

They're all decent. Yes, even IE7 in its own way.
The thing is, I always come back to Firefox not because by some objective standard it's "the best," but because it's the best balance. |

I wish I were using Firefox, but I had lots of trouble with it in my current install of Edgy Eft. It would tend to crash. A lot. Part of the problem has to do with using Xgl, but it was crashing from GMail chat even before I insatlled Xgl.
So now I use Opera. It's okay. Seems a bit slow, though. |

I should have been more clear. I'm saying that Firefox keeps losing my bookmarks. The batch file was just additional info because i thought it revelenvant. Also, I am not switching firefox, I have been a Firefox user for some time now, but I'm looking for other browsers.

I don't know, I've gotten mixed results. How can I actually measure the rendering speed though? |
