I want to know your opinion on windows vista.
My opinion is:
It's a wast of time and money. Why should I spend about $200 - $500 upgrading my hardware then an extra $200 - $400 on vista just to get another OS knockoff. Come on five years for this. |

The only way anyone spending their own money will ever buy this is when they get it with a new computer. |

A close friend of mine told me the battery life roughly doubled on his laptop with windows vista, over xp.
You may find it interesting to read they're EULA there are numerous things they've changed, a simple google search can help you find some good articles about it.
-certain versions prohibit you from using VMWare
-you can have vista, install it on a machine, then only install it on one more machine. with windows they'd let you activate on multiple machines (provided you removed it from the previous one)
this is no longer the case, so for your 3rd machine, (you buy one, upgrade to a new system(or harddrive), buy another(or harddrive) ) you are out of luck, and have to purchase another copy. |

Thats not what I heard. I heard that the battery life was being cut in half with all the extra load on the CPU.
Also I don't like that Microsoft is upselling. From $200 - $400, thats a big jump especially for a student trying to get into collage without the extra cash for computer expenses. Vista is mainly tuned for gaming with its advanced graphics. But what about the guy that programs the games, are there any extra features for him? And the apps didn't change much. Just more graphic addons. Also how well dose it run a server. Think, is it necessary. For an all out gamer sure. |

And the apps didn't change much. Just more graphic addons. The {guy, girl} that programs the games professionally will be forced to upgrade to Vista {him, her}self. I really don't think you would find a shortage of test boxes in a professional gaming company.

Vista has many editions, most of which are aimed just at home users. They have already invested a lot in another server operating system, Windows Server 2003. Many of those who are running servers run it on a *nix based OS anyways... |

In short, Vista is an improvement over XP. Just not enough of an improvement to justify the price, especially considering that it has a fair number of caveats as compared to XP. |
