when i booted my computer i recieved that message. it advised i backup my data immediately. my question is, what would cause this message? i recently had some adware on my pc but other than that nothing unusual. i used diskcheck utilities and nothing came up so i dont know what the problem is..

my question is how do i find out whats wrong with my drive and how do i fix it. also if its not repairable, i should probably get a new drive. is there any program i can get that will transer all my stuff from my old drive to the new one such that it will run off the new drive?

Hmm.. I don't know what could make that error. Maybe your system has detected that it's having trouble reading from the drive. But some software you can buy and use to make an exact copy of your original is disk imaging software. It should recopy your hard drive and you should be able to use the new imaged hard drive. Here's a pretty good one: http://www.acronis.com/

Also here's a site comparing the top 10 imaging software so you can pick which you want.

New hard drives are all self monitoring, so it may very well have detected that some part has failed, or is nearing the end of it's design lifespan. Get a copy of the smartmon toolset and check to see what actually is wrong. Though a new drive never hurts Wink

A new hard drive is always good assurance if you get that error. One thing you may want to consider is upgrading from your older hard drive if you can and if you plan on keeping your computer for the next little while. Also one thing to note is when buying a hard drive always try to go for the one with a longer guarantee which tends to mean that the drive will last longer.

From the point of where you have to aprove the bootup via warning message. Its a clear sign that its hitting retirement and soon will have a stroke a die on you. Best thing to do see how much data you have on the harddrive now in gigs and mathamaticly add 10+gigs to it. So if you have 30 gigs of data write down 40. Beucase you should be heading off to a small computer store to get a new hardrive. Stay away from the cheap'o and get a samsung or a WD. The reason why I say add 10gigs is beucase there might be a chance that when it is time to copy the hardrive over you might have compressed files and when switch it over the data to the new one it might decompress.. I had this happen to me before on one of my win2k3 servers, and now its seems its about to happen to another server(my linux server) lol... Grrr! servers! lol..

And keep away from the big stores! I hate people that buy computers from them, they should DIE! lol all your really doing is spending 600+ extra just for the case lol...
