Hello everyone,
I have received my 3.2GHz Xeon, 1GB Ram, Full ThermalTake Server yesturday and I need help setting up everything.
First: I have two hard drives, a 80GB and a 320GB (both SATA) and I would like the 80GB dedicated to ONLY programs and all the system files and the 320GB only for website files and game server files.
Second: I need all the basic configurations for a web server (Apache, PHP, MySQL, FTP and an SMTP setup) also I need a Name Server setup (for multiple domain abilities)
Thirdly: I would like to host game servers aswell as websites.
*NOTE: I need a control panel and a web hosting manager but I do not have money for cPanel ATM.
I found VHCS which seems to be good but what would you guys use?
Q: (I know I will need to buy a new router since it can only broadcast 1 IP)
A webserver only needs 1 IP and you tell a domain to go to a specific folder on the server. (ext1.com -> /ext1/) BUT A game server needs its own IP right? How is this possible to have 1 server with multiple IPs?
BTW, don't worry about my ISP having problems with this (save you from posting the question) they are cool with it as long as I don't have anything against their TOS. Also, I can have a server but they don't want any part of it.

game servers don't require their own IP either. The server listens on a set range of ports; so long as your game servers don't require the same set of ports yoru fine.
You also don't need a new router, just forward teh required ports to your new server.
As for the rest, without more information on what OS your running, and what you want to host (and who you registered your domain with) more help is hard to give.

wow, I didn't include the OS - the OS is CentOS 4.3
If the server only requires 1 IP then I am fine with my current router
I guess thats the only way to host game servers, to have same IP but with different ports. that will be fine I guess
I plan to host websites mosty, which the domains point to a folder on my server (technicly) but I would also like to run a game server or two
My domain is registered with NameCheap but unsure who the others that have sites on my server are registered with...
If you need to know anything else, feel free to ask.

uhh, if your planning on hosting lots then a residential level or even most business level high speed connections are not going to cut it. Plus hosting is not a simple thing if you want to do it properly.
There are almost certainly lots of guides out there to help you though, give google a try... might be better then asking here

The plan was to upgrade my current internet plan, then once revenue starts coming in then move to a commercial area and upgrade it yet again... and so forth
But I know what you mean - and about online guides, there are many yes, but there are certian things that I can;t seem to find - oh well
