Designating a My Music and My Pictures Folder

Recently my secondary hard drive crashed and I can't get it functioning again. I had previously used the Tweak UI power tool to designate folders on this hard drive as my "My Music, and My Pictures" folders. Now I want to designate folders on my still working hard drive as the My Music and My Pictures folders, however those options don't appear in the Tweak UI menu any more.

Does anyone know how to redesignate these folders?

You'll need to make sure you can view hidden and system files for this...

Every folder should have a desktop.ini file. In it you can specify if the folder is personalized or not.

Yours should look like something below.

For My Music:

I tried to find them, but it seems that only the folders that I never changed (shuch as my videos and my webs) have this desktop file in them (even when I did a full system search)

They're hidden quite well. I've already told Winders to show me hidden files, and they still don't show up.

You need to use something like the edit program. Just cd to the directory where you want to edit/put Desktop.ini, then type "edit Desktop.ini".

Or better yet, just go to the address bar, where it says something like:

C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\myfolder

and change it to:

C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\myfolder\Desktop.ini

Which will then open Desktop.ini in the default text editor.

I usually just redirect my whole My Documents folder. Just right click on My Documents and choose properties, in there you can move it. But I'm guessing you wanted to move My Music and My Pictures out of My Documents.

Ya, originally I had the docs on the C drive, and the pics and music on my much larger D drive. But the drive crashed on me and I haven't been able to recover anything from it, so I wanted to start using the C for my pics and music.

O.K. So this is really weird. THe folder now still says Josh R's Music, evnet hough it has the my music folder icon.

Now when I try and open iTunes it can't find the my Music folder and it won't open.

Is there somewhere else I need to designate this?

Name it "My Music" and place it in c:\Documents and Settings\Josh\My Documents\.

I tried that, I tried re-naming the one called Josh R's Music, which is already in my documents, to My Music and it wouldn't let me.

Also, I noticed that when I use the Power tool called Tweak UI it no longer has an option for the my pictures and my music folders.
