I used a spyware scanner to get rid of spyware. There is one that always keeps showing up. Adware.cmdService. Every time i click 'remove' it shows it as being removed, however, when i rescan only seconds after it is still there. So i located the file in the registry. In the regedit, when i go to delete it, it gives the following error 'Unable to delete all specified values.' When i change the binary value, it says the value cannot be changed.. Any thoughts?

I've had similar problems with spyware. I've had one case where I had a spyware program on my system and it was in the start up and I couldn't delete it because the program ran every time I turned on my computer. So I moved it to a different folder and then I could delete it. I'm not sure about your case but make sure there are no programs accessing the file and possible move it so that programs will not be able to access it and you should be able to delete it. Other than that I don't know what you could do.

Errr, well it's in the registry, so u can't exactly 'move it' :p. I think it disguises it as one of windows' services so it runs in unison with other services. That's probably why i can't delete it. I tried booting in safe mode and deleting it, still the same problem Confused

booting into safe mode should have fixed it. try a system resore if u recently got the spyware. what kind of spyware scanner are you using? a really good one is spyware doctor! try this http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/

Sorry about that Amailer, I'm running a high resolution of 1280x1024 on my computer so I don't know what it's like with other resolutions. Is my new avatar better or does it need to be smaller as well?

Its good, Silent Avenger
---
I used to get spyware that while logged on to my user, Spybot was unable to delete- then it would ask you if it could run when windows starts up to delete the problem (one time run), you click yes and it restarts your comp- then before any of your startup apps start up, the spybot scan begins to run, that usually got rid of them all (this was without going into safe mode).

Of course, there the times where you can't do anything (or at least - the simplest thigns) to get rid of the problem and you just reinstall. I had a virus or some problem with my windows where I was unable to do system updates. Even with the help of M$ support I was unable to fix it, so I just reinstalled windows and now just stopped using it, I use ArchLinux now Razz

i also have some spyware and invalid registry key values left from spyware and such that i can't seem to have picked up on by even AVG, Norton, or McAfee.

i used regedit to locate most of the invalid registry keys and deleted them with no drawbacks; however, no many how many times i delete my Cookeis folder spyware keeps coming back.

if it helps, the source of all this was a Cowabanga.exe trojan that infected my computer by disguising itself as a .torrent file. (the actual .torrent, not what it downloads.)
