Does anyone know if there's anything special about this day? All anyone I've talked to knows is that it's a civic holiday (woot, long weekend). But is it a just because thing? |

It's a long weekend 'cause it was felt there should be one in august. Every month needs a drinking weekend |

High school students need longer holidays. 3 Months will do. 2 Months just isn't enough and they should shove all the long weekends during school time, just so that students can enjoy them too. |

lol. Yeah I second that, cause people go to summer school too which leaves them only with 1 month of holidays. Besides, most of the students work too... they should really extend it. and still be able to shove long weekends into the school year |

Definitely not. Torture those high school students! Abolish P.A. days!
Really though, one month of holiday is a long holiday. If you're working or using it productively, then I can see a longer holiday being okay. But really, high school education is important and if you extend the summer holiday, you'll just be working that much harder during the year. |

Seriously; if you're doing nothign in the way of working all summer then why in gods name do you need more then 2 months? If your making money then I can understand it, but people who do nothing all summer drive me nuts. I wish I could just slap people like that, and then drive over them. |

I agree with Cervantes, why on earth would we need more than 2 months of holidays? I myself spend most of my time during the summer doing next to nothing cept programming the occasional program. I think the summer would be better off shorter and the school year extended to make it easier on some of the other students, so that they dont have as much work piled on them during critical times of the year/semester. |

And the same could be said in reverse for people who actually work over the summer, I wish summer was longer so I could make more money to pay for post-secondary education but it's not longer, so I will have less money...

Having an academic term in summer is not so bad (as long as you study with AC on).. on the upside it's so much easier to find co-op employment in Fall/Winter, as oppose to Summer when all the non-co-op students try to work anyways. |

I thought the civic holiday was an American Holiday. I liked being at school. My classes weren't that bad and I had good friends there. College (Hopefully) will be fun. Seems like I've gotten all the shitty classes first year. it's not till second year that it starts to look interesting. Anyone taken the programmer course at St. Clair? What about windsor? I can get 15 credits at UofW with my 3 year diploma from St. Clair...i think I'm going to do the concurrent thing. |
