Although it is cute..
Who here thinks it would be better as another animal, like a toaster or something.

Linux's founder claims to have once been bitten by a killer penguin - so he commissioned a penguin logo contest in 96. The winner is now the Linux mascot.
The toaster was already a fairly well-recognized trademark of After-Dark software co., at the time.

But please don't confuse Tux with the official Linux logo. If I recall correctly, this was the winner of the contest:
This site claims to have a list of all the logo entries for the Linux logo.

Shit, I'd hate to run into a pack of wild toasters...what is their native country? I'll just refrain from visiting.

Tell me about it. I had a bad encounter with a stray back in 'nam.
