I've been playing the new Hitman game for a couple of days now, and it's awesome. Great graphics, good bg music, and while it's not anything totally new compared to past Hitman games (at least so far), I really like it.
Here's my problem: when I've been playing for a while, my computer will automatically reboot. It has always been during the second mission, but not at a particular point in the mission. I've contacted Eidos Tech Support and they didn't have an answer.
I did a little research and the most common answer to the problem seems to be my PSU. Thing is, I've NEVER had this problem before, so why is it that it's only happening with one game? I'm currently also playing The Godfather, NBA Live '06, Fifa '06... all fairly new games, so I can't understand why it's only happening with Hitman.
My pc specs in case anyone's interested:
P4 3.0ghz (w/ HTT), 512mb ram, 80gb HD
Asus 256mb Geforce 6600
I'm not sure about my PSU, but I'm pretty sure it's generic.
Any ideas? |

Chances are it has to do with cooling, as you said. That's why my computer randomly shut down. And yes, it was only with one game. Some games take more out of a machine than others, which would explain it. |

Well... crap. You have pretty much identical specs as me, and the game is sitting on my "to install" shelf. Best wishes to me.
Either PSU or cooling.
A) Your graphics card is drawing too much power during peak load. This will frequently happen with certain games vs. certain video cards. Make sure everything (game, card, mobo) is fully updated, as these problems are sometimes software-solveable.
If not, check your PSU rating. If you've got a factory install 350W it could actually damage your rig if you run it for gaming.
B) Your graphics card is getting too hot during peak & shutting itself down. A heat monitor will let you know if that's the issue. |

Old topic, but I decided I'd just post an update in case anyone else was having the same problem.
I didn't need to buy a new PSU. It turned out my soundcard driver wasn't as up-to-date as it could be. I updated and voila, the problem is gone.
So to anyone having a random reboot problem, make sure you have the latest drivers for your hardware before going out and purchasing replacements. |

Good to hear your problem has gone away. Is your sound integrated? |

I've yet to encounter a situation where I would need to buy a soundcard (like I bought a video card to replace the crappy onboard one). |

Do you, Andy? Is it the 5.1 (or more?) surround sound you want or are you not satisfied by the quality of the onbaord sound? |

should look into getting dolby digital live or dts interactive encoding. but i dont even know if you can get headphones with decoding for that. i just got the hda x-plosion and logitech z-5500. using dts interactive with that is wicked. |
