I'm supposed to make a program that balances chemical equations.... Anyways, I'm just having some difficulty determining the products in this one:
C6H8O6 + NaOH --> (I duno wtf are the products... H2O and what?)
Thanksss (btw, C6H8O6 is ascorbic acid if ne1 is wondering)

Something tells me it would be the following, however I'm not 100% positive.
Quote:
C6H8O6 + NaOH -> C6H7O6Na + H2O
Kinda reminds me of acetic acid reacting with sodium hyrdoxide
Quote:
CH3COOH + NaOH -> CH3COONa + H20

Ok thanks , I checked in with some other ppl and they said that it would be C6H8O6(aq) + NaOH(aq) --> NaC6H7O6(aq) + H2O(l). But this is organic chemistry, which is really ridiculous cuz in gr 11 chem we haven't even talked about organics . I'm not sure why he'd give us somethin like this for our culminating activity. Neways thanks

I recall somebody telling me that organic chemistry was a requirement of the grade 11 courses and typically done as an ISU. That's the way we did it in grade 11 as well.

I duno man, that's a high probability. Except we have a horrible teacher who doesn't know how to teach and gives you questions that he's never taught.
