It's a "hey look, we did it" thing. If you own an Intel Mac and decided you wanted to run Windows XP on it (why exactly did you buy a Mac?), then congratulations now you can. If you're Steve Jobs, well, bad thing I guess. |

the whole point of this, that was failed to be emphasized, is that it was figured out how to dual boot Windows and OSX on an Intel Mac.
I think that puts Macs at an advantage, at least until someone figures out how to dual boot OSX on a generic PC |

That's been done a long time ago, has it not? I've got an ISO sitting around but I've heard that it can only be installed on it's own hard drive. |

Heh people should realize there is no "perfect machine". Everything has a hole and yes I know some people here will counter my comment by giving examples of some OS's but there is a hole in everything just waiting to be discovered, no? |

Vegeta you dont know what your talking about.
Apple specifically said they have no problem with people putting windows on hte systems. in a quote fom steve jobs. " we have done nothing to prevent users from running windows"
the problem was not a security hole or anything , it wa the fact that intel macs use EFI to boot , and Windows XP (yes i know hte 64 bit does EFI , but hte intel macs are 32 Bit so its not really relavent) and Vista use BIOS. BIOS will soon be replaced hopefully , but before you go posting about no perfect machines, learn about what your talking about.
This was a guy who was smrt enough to make a translator to get the system to boot XP , because apparently EFI is modular and you can write apps for it to do different chacks and tasks. |

I just meant Generally speaking, calm down lol, and yes it will have a hole in it if it is made by humans which it is, no matter what they put in to make it work, nothing will ever be perfect. |

well it's the size of the hole that matters.. there's a pin hole and there's a quality-swiss-cheese hole.
Besides, it's not just about security.
OSX's advantage is usability.
Windows' advantage are video-games. |

Technically using EFI is doing something to prevent windows XP from running, since it does not support EFI (in any version right now iirc). And the new macs are 64bit. |

You are right about everything having holes, but the thing is with OS suported by open sorce comunitys thos holes are fixed in days if not hours of being relaced since every one has a copy of the sorce. With windows they pertend they do not exists even affter they find one and wait intill some mass expoite comes along to fix it. |

i think this is great news for mac users, i mean, you buy a mac, and you use it everyday for everything you need, then once or twice a week, you go into windows and play soemgames, os use some windows only softwares to function in the real world.. it's pretty hard to function in the IT world without using an XP machine at all |

I don't see much benefits from doing this but oh well its still all good Its something new right?
Either way, - the best thing is yeah- the games. You can now play games on your mac (well you could before too, but not all the l33t ones, that's right, l33t).
I wonder how true MAC users feel about this |

I expected the prize to be higher than $14K - although I'm sure it was done for the challenge & 5 minutes of fame, not the money. |
