PostPosted: Wed Oct 11, 2006 10:29 pm   Post subject: Wow...

Tonight we had a surprising visitor. Now, we generally like to be gentle to our guests in the channel, however, this was an exception. I'm sure as Canadians you get bothered when an American starts stereotyping you, here's the result.

Just a word of note, this conversation was us being sarcastic and joking around. In no way was anything we said true, nor does it reflect how we feel.

I dunno, it seems like you guys all jumped on to the poor guy.

He didn't say anything (besides a sarcastic joke about having 10 fingers), and you got on his case about being american.

I feel sorry for the guy, he doesn't deserved being made fun of, and teamed up on.

Yes, they are gods to us.

Reread... we don't just do this for no reason. I don't know about you, but being stereotyped is quite annoying to me.

Actually he said a lot; but it was all snipped out. Most of it was just him asking questions though. I don't see how we jumped on him... we jsut played the parts of Canadians as per american stereotypes (or perceived stereotypes). All in all it was nothing but harmless fun.

Yeah, I was lurking towards the end of that heheh. Don't know though, I'm more on octopi's side. I mean sure, he said quite a few of those stereotypical things, but then you were being stereotypical in assuming that he wouldn't know we have a Prime Minister, were you not? Besides, I'm sure most Americans are far, far more clueless than that. Razz

Sure it was harmless fun, and quite fun at that, but for the sake of argument...

Interesting....except when you look at the few lines above it.

code:
Oct 11 22:59:05 <md> we don't all live in igloos you know
Oct 11 22:59:12 <md> some of us have wood huts

MD is the one who gets on the topic of americans stereotypes, hes not the one who instantly asks about igloos, MD is the one that mentions it.

sd88g93 wasn't wrong either in what he said. Some people DO, and I, like him, also wouldn't mind living in an igloo, they do look pretty cool.

You don't think the americans don't know that we think we are stereotyped as igloo living, red green watching, coffee drinking people.
He's just playing you guys. He knows what you'll think is funny, and hes saying all the right things. Its his way at getting back at you, for making the assumption he was going to stereotype us.

*sigh* some people don't seem to be able to laugh at things... yes we were being highly sarcastic and playing typical canadians as seen through american's eyes as seen by canadians (it's the canadian stereotype of americans that leads to this you know...).

But it was hilarious at the time, and hell yes I'd do it again. So to hell with all you losers who think it was mean, I'm going to go play with beaver Wink

I think it's a stereotype of Americans to say that what you were saying is (even an exaggerated) stereotype they hold of Canadians.

Try figuring that sentence out. Wink
