I want to burn a DVD, but when I put it in my DVD-RW drive, it says the disk is blank. However, the disk plays properly when I put it in a standard DVD player. Also, the DVD drive plays other DVD's without a problem. I'm wondering, what could be causing my drive to not recognize the disk?

one problem could be that the disk was burned at a faster rate than ur player could read... im not sure if this affects dvds, but back in the days of cd writers, if you burn a cd at 40x, then chances are, it wont be read with a 32x reader

I don't think it was burned previously Andy. I might be wrong. Um. Otherwise I have no ideas. Clean it?

I've encountered a few formats that will play in a standard player, but not as well (or at all) on a computer drive. Your standalone might also be able to skip over errors better than the PC equivalent.

If you'll be doing similar burns, you might want to get your burning soft to verify the write.

Hmm well the thing is, I'm not the one who burnt this DVD originally. I received it from a professional videographer (who filmed my sister's wedding). In all likelyhood, you are probably correct about the DVD being incompatible with my drive. But I was thinking, is it possible that the videographer put some sort of copy protection on the disk (so that my computer can't even detect it)?

Well the computer MUST detect somthing even if its licence protected. Do other DVD's work properly, might be a prob. with the drive.
