I mean come on, How dumb is that, if you see someone wearing glasses, you think "Now thats a nerd." Maybe hes an extreme gamer who is poor and cant afford lens. I for one wear glasses and can't stand those remarks. I mean come on, I know I am not a nerd, and I wear glasses due to some heredity and gaming factors.

What do you guys think?

It seems you think no. But you previously said being a nerd requires having glasses.

Hmm lets create wtd, what do you think this guy looks like? Each member is only limited to one personality trait or 1 appearence hypothesis. You have to give a description why you think you are saying what you are saying:

Mine is:

Glasses (*cough* self-explanatory *cough*)

Does this mean you recently got glasses, yourself?

I realy do not think galses says much about you this day and age. Aucatly i find that alot of peoleop almost maybe the magorty that i know have galses or need contacts of some kind. Tho not all ware them all the time, some times it is just for reading or other things. It aucatly scares me how high the % of peoleop that need contacts or eye galses seems to be. I blive that the "eye" indusrty is aucatly giving them out unnessalry for conductions that realy do not need them just to increas profits. For examle i have hured of peoleop who compain that they have truble reading over head projectors and have goten galsses just to read from overhead projectors. I thought every one had trouble with that, lol.

Aucatly i see galsses as becoming more and more of a style thing to the point where peoleop who realy do not need them at all will start geting glasses that do nothing just to fit in and look "cool". I realy think it is the person not what they ware who makes them who they are but thats just me.

Well. I personally know some people with glasses that aren't nerds. But although they stand well over a head taller than I, they are very unintimidating lol.

I think I tend to notice glasses on nerds more. As in, many nerds do have glasses (cept for me, i like to think im smart =\) and I once counted all the nerds who had glasses and yeah.

Plus for me, people who where glasses arent nearly as intimidating, and its hard to take someone with glasses seriously, say if they challenge you to a fight.

Depends what kind of glasses you wear and the way you dress. If you had glasses like Harry Potter then yes you look like a nerd. If you threw some glasses on Arnold Swartasdfoixcvger, I dont think he would look like a nerd... unless the glasses are really nerdy and he was wearing spandex...

Anyways, glasses can often be used as the very opposite of what the poll suggests. Buddy Holly, Elton John, John Lennon, Drew Carey... Their glasses are very much a part of them, and it's difficult to recognize them (well, maybe not Lennon) without their glasses. People have had laser eye surgery or gotten contact lenses but still wear their glasses because people don't recognize them otherwise.

British comedic actor Eric Sykes, who became profoundly deaf as an adult, wears glasses that contain no lenses, but are in fact a bone-conducting hearing aid.

wtd doesnt look like a nerd, but he talks like one o_O
@ Cervantes: no, its been more than 6 months since I got glasses anyways, I said that before because most people tend to think glasses are associated with nerdyness. I don't. But it was just for the sake of humor.

I really gotta point out that more then half of all accedemics need glasses. Theories as to why this is range from spending too much time reading to vision and intelligence being linked... but hte point is that accedimics usually have glasses. And oh look, CS is an accedemic endevour... strange Razz

I know of many people much more nerdy then me who don't need glasses, so being a nerd does not require them; however it certainly helps to make someone fit the stereotype.

not sure if this is true but an eye doctor said that u don't get glasses from reading and too much computer or gaming its more in the genes. all gaming and reading those is put stress on your eyes, but its not the cause of u needing glasses. again i'm not exactly sure if this is true this is wat i've been told.

Well thats not completely true. I mean if your genes have only 1% of gettting glasses and you put wayyy too much stress on your eyes, glasses will come to you. Laughing but, for me, me being gaming too much and the fact that my "mom" has glasses had a pretty good chance of me getting those damn things. Anyways, today's world around 70% wear lenses cause they want to "look" good to others -_-.

If you get glasses when you are around 4 or 5. Otherwise it may be both, you cant really say.

If that were true, I'd be able to lift things up with just my mind by now.
