POWER6 at 4-5GHz sounds really impressive, except that in addition to architectural improvements, they're also acocmplishing that by using a dramatically simpler core. The problem with that? Lower IPC.

They essentially repeating the gambit Intel unsuccessfully made: that they can increase clock speed fast enough to make up for a less efficient chip design. Time will tell if it pays off for them, but Apple's defection should indicate that not everyone is betting it will.

But why do I have to wait till 2007? Rapture is at the end of this year anyway... Wink

I want my computer to melt _now_, not in a year from now!

Power6 is a PPC chip. As a gamer, it wouldn't affect you.
