Anyone an expert on routers and ports?

I should know something, I took networking in compeng >_<
but alas, I've tried everything.

If you use azureus (bittorrent), you'll know that the green smiley symbol indicates everything is fine, and if you get a yellow one, it means you may have a NAT problem.

That is tested one of two ways:
1. Through the built-in "Nat/Firewall tester"
2. https://www.grc.com/x/portprobe=4900 (changing the last number to your port that you use for azureus)

Both indicate I have NAT problems, the second one says I have "stealth" status for that port.

If its not too much trouble, could anyone who has the green smiley for their downloads in azureus run a check on the website?

I've forwarded the port I'm using correctly on my router, but I've ran out of ideas.

It says mine is stealth. Maybe that's because I don't have Azureus running right now? I've had lots of problems with Azureus thinking my port isn't forwarded properly when it was. Try going into your router settings and disabling and enabling the port.

Weak torrents will often have weak health.
Slow servers or few seeders will cause this.

Otherwise, make sure your router is set to port-forward TCP and UDP on a port that isn't blacklisted. (6880 is blacklisted by default by a lot of servers).

Then make sure that any firewall programs you have running (including the windows XP firewall) are allowing traffic in & out of that port.

what router are u using? maybe its a router problem.. i think i used to have the same problem with my dlink... worst case, put the ip assigned to the comp on the dmz and see if it works

Interesting idea...
I'm using a smc 700vbr pretty cheap and crappy router.
And yes I've set a static IP outside the lease range. ALso forwarded a port in the 40000~ range. Ignoring torrent strength, I think I have NAT problems based on that link I went to (provided by azureus wiki) and the internal NAT test.

Yes, router's firewall is disabled lol

Azureus seems way to complex to setup (for ports). I only forwarded ports 5881-5999, and everything's fine for me.
Maybe you should try a different client.
Also if you got the money, maybe you should spring for a better router.

a cheap wireless router
a 3rd party firewall (windows firewall is turned **off**)
Peerguardian (IP filter)

:/ I can't get a green status light with Bit Tornado, either; I've forwarded the ports (10000 ~ 10005 .. I know, small range, but I only run one or two torrents at a time), disabled computer firewalls, but I'm still NATed. :/ My ports were reportedly stealthed too, but I have no idea what this means nor how to go about fixing it :/

Do you at least have traffic in/out? Mine only seems to work if I manually announce about every minute >_< and even then, it goes at < 1 kb/s *dies*

Stealth means that your ports are invisible to the outside.

In other words, you can connect to other peers using P2P, but they can't initialize connections with you. You're running at 50% effectiveness.

Checklist

windows firewall disabled
3rd party firewall allows connections IN and OUT
- either on your port of choice or for your P2P application
your port isn't blacklisted (go random or pick one that isn't 6880-6881)
firewall is port forwarding the port you've picked

If all that is done, you might be on a blocked or banned IP for the tracker or peerguardian/bluetack, etc.

Or... your ISP might be throttling back suspected P2P ports and/or users.
