what do u mean struggling? got 79(.9) first term cause got 50% on trig test (was teacher's fault for forgetting to teach sth) ... pulled my mark up to 87 for the final. and never did my hwk throughout the entire course XD
endless @ Mon Apr 06, 2009 9:08 pm wrote: 9/10 would be pretty decent haha.
judging by the previous contests, i'm fine until the probability and sequence questions, then i have to grind it out.
bring on lots of trig questions please!
good luck everyone.
LOL i'm just the opposite, more probability and less trig plz. and please give a question that would require calculus.... I felt that calculus is so useless when doing the contest. only time i used it is to find the vertex of an equation though if it's in standard form -b/2a is faster.

That would be a horrible idea. Marks are still being submitted and the English presentation may or may not be part of the second term university mark. Furthermore, bringing your mark up after suffering a big blow is not as easy as it may seem. Getting a 0 on something significant will probably destroy whatever mark you were trying to achieve and not be able to bring it back. Lastly, English is probably one of the courses that most universities pay the most attention on and so I would not be trying to 'game' it. That would also depend on what mark you are getting since you might risk it if you have a sufficiently high mark in the course - though I don't recommend it.
I would think universities would look more towards your actual marks rather then a contest score (Though, I'm not sure if this is true. Perhaps PR, in the case of waterloo, can give more information there). In conclusion, Dark, do your english presentation since it will probably be more important then your contest score.
not sure about other schools but for our school teachers have already submitted the marks to the main office where they'll be ready to be sent to OUAC by the 17th. for final mark it won't matter that much as long as ur mark won't drop over 5%. the quiz that i'm going to skip will only drop my mark by 3% so basically i can still just maintain my current avg and be ok for university.
For me i think writing the euclid is more important than losing a few % for final mark which universities won't care about... |

| guys, dont underestimate the euclid contest...no offense, but don't become overconfident that you'll get 9/10 in the 3 hour time limit (as the questions are quite challenging). although 9/10 is very possible, dont be discouraged if you dont achieve a 90 |

No, whatever information you need is on the Euclid Contest website.
Also, to people on the forum, seeing as how some people have not written it, please give it one or two days before we start discussing the questions . |

Nope, they give out a printout of the contest I believe, so it wouldn't be fair to the first students who wrote it. I wish I could've wrote it |

so... how did u guys do on euclid?
unfortunately i won't be getting 9/10
only did questions 1-7, 9a, 10a and 10c
i also did 8 and 9b but i'm sure those answers are wrong.
Does anyone know how much work you have to show for full solution questions? I'm not sure if i have enough stuff on the answer. For those questions I just wrote out every step in getting into the solution but almost never bothered to explain what i'm doing. my answer is like 95% math and 5% english. while i see the past contests solutions are 75% english 25% math. |

| The solutions ought to be very well demonstrated (especially for questions 8 - 10) |

sigh... just realized that i made a really stupid mistake for 9a
when i did cross multiply, i added them instead. but all of my steps are right, if I did multiply instead of add, would have gotten the right answer. How much mark would i get for this question?
also for question 10 i didn't show any step at all... cause I can't really explain how i got the equation. I just thought of it logically and I came up with an equation right away. I'm sure i got 10a and 10c right. though didn't have much step for either of them. wonder how much i'll get.... |

for 9a, you might get 1 (if not 0) as the cross multiplying is only the start of a whole solution. For 10 a), just an answer should suffice, but for 10 c, you might only get 1 or 2 marks (as I think 10 c is worth about 5).
What is the equation you got, btw? |

so are we aloud to talk about it yet?
i seemed to have a lot of trouble with it, mostly from poor time management. ill be happy if i get over 50%.
i was pretty frustrated that i couldn't finish question 6.b), considering those kinds of questions are usually a strength for me.
i'd like to get into details, but don't want to give stuff away to people who may not have written yet. |
