I am trying to create some dynamic (database driven) web applications, but i am having trouble setting up the testing server required.
more specifically i need clarification as to what the URL Prefex field is asking for. the description given is :
Quote:
The URL Prefex is the location of the sites root folder on the testing server
What is a root folder?
the field defauld is {http://localhost/}
Edit-
here is the complete testing server tab values i entered.
Server model :Asp Vb script
Access :local/network
Testing server folder: C:\webfiles\notes
[check] refresh remote file list automatically
Url Prefix: {http://localhost/webfiles/notes}

Your root folder is as it sounds, the root where all of your files are located.

So let's say you have the domain example.com, and the testing files are stored in /dev/, then your testing URL should be something like this:
code:
http://www.example.com/dev/
Click on test connection or whatever to make sure everything's correct.

Another option would be just to have a folder in the root of your normal site (something like /test/) and not use a test server, just keep your testing files separate.

Sorry for such a long delay in responding but i had lots of work. I know what the root folder is but what i need to know is how to set up a testing server using dreamweaver mx. I currently have abyss web server installed and i plan on using msaccess databases i run on a win xp home machine.

i dont really understand why that'd be used either... personally i think that apache/php/mysql is the best combonation for anything like that.. its quite simple once you get a grip on it to get it setup, i can do a fresh install of all 3 within 10 mins, and that includes dling all the files..
