I live in British Columbia and I'm currently in a first year engineering transfer program. This program has an agreement with UBC and UVic, giving admission to second year on equal footing with the students already there, and UVic does have a software engineering program, but I would like to explore other options before taking that for sure.
Obviously I've seen the various curricula and I know which schools are accredited, but I know next to nothing about the reputations of most of the programs available, especially those east of Alberta. The impression I'm getting from browsing these forums is that Waterloo is fairly popular, but how are the programs at other institutions viewed? What other factors should I be looking at when considering these programs?
Some that I have a bit of interest in already, for one reason or another:
UVic (mandatory co-op, I'm guaranteed admission already)
U of Calgary (close to home, well-reputed in general)
McGill (excellent reputation in general, not sure about software engineering specifically)
McMaster (game design specialization, but I have to wonder if that would actually be useful, or respected)
U of Western Ontario (location, law dual degree piqued my interest)
Any information about other programs I didn't list is appreciated, too, since I'm basing this list on superficial factors at this point anyway. |

The Waterloo program is another required co-op program. I believe U of T might be strong for Engineering as it is great for computer science, but I do not know much about engineering beyond that since I haven't done any heavy research into engineering |

University of Alberta and Dalhousie University also have reputable engineering programs. |
