How do you make an animated video?

I am trying to learn how to make an animated video, what programs are used, and a good tutorial for learning how it is done.

There's Blender for free. Complete with a bunch of tutorials.

The learning curve is huge compared to 2D animation (Flash or the movie editor in adobe's repetoire). Blender will basically give you the tools to make Toy Story or even the Final Fantasy movies. It's just insanely complicated to get it that good. Mind you those were probably done with another 3D editor I forget the name of because it's for professionals.

If your trying to make a movie, you could always go the machinima rout. Where you have all or certain areas of character and other movement in real time (someone controlling it). Part of it can have scripted events triggered when someone moves on a hotspot (Eg: explosion behind). Think Red vs Blue.
