actually, if u open windows explorer, u'll notice "iexplore.exe" in ur task manager.

I am prity shure even tho it may not be the same exe file that IE and the file browser for windows XP share alot of the same code to the point that they are almost the same other then one has been tweaked for files and one for the web.

That is if they are not the same exe excatly to being with.....

Author:  Martin [ Wed Sep 22, 2004 6:31 pm ]
Post subject:

iexplore.exe handles both. Notice how you can go from file view to internet just by typing a url in the address bar (this is the only thing that IE wins on in the war with Firefox). Also, if you have spyware toolbars, chances are they will be on both.

Author:  Paul [ Wed Sep 22, 2004 6:32 pm ]
Post subject:

... I dunno... one is EXPLORE.exe, another is iexplore.exe, but explore.exe, I think is in all windows task managers, and if u end task it, ur start bar goes away for a while, and then it re executes. BUT if u type an URL in the windows explorer address bar, it will go to that site... and there's no difference between that and internet explorer.

EXPLORE.exe is the windows shell i think and not the file browser.

Popup Blocking
Stop annoying popup ads in their tracks with Firefox's built in popup blocker.

Tabbed Browsing
View more than one web page in a single window with this time saving feature. Open links in the background so that they're ready for viewing when you're ready to read them. Find out more...

Privacy and Security
Built with your security in mind, Firefox keeps your computer safe from malicious spyware by not loading harmful ActiveX controls. A comprehensive set of privacy tools keep your online activity your business.

Smarter Search
Google Search is built right into the toolbar, and there are a plethora of other search tools including Smart Keywords (type "dict <word>" in the Location bar), and the new Find bar (which finds text as you type without covering up anything).

Live Bookmarks
RSS integration lets you read the latest news headlines and read updates to your favorite sites that are syndicated.

Hassle-Free Downloading
Files you download are automatically saved to your Desktop so they're easy to find. Fewer prompts mean files download quicker.

Fits Like a Glove

Firefox is as big or small as you want.

Setup's a Snap
At only 4.5MB (Windows), Firefox takes just a few minutes to download over a slow connection and seconds over a fast connection. The installer gets you set up quickly, and the new Easy Transition system imports all of your settings - Favorites, passwords and other data from Internet Explorer and other browsers - so you can start surfing right away.

A Developer's Best Friend
Firefox comes with a standard set of developer tools including a powerful JavaScript and CSS error/warning console, and an optional Document Inspector that gives detailed insight about your pages.

Read Mail"”Not Spam
Thunderbird is the perfect complement to Firefox.

If you think that's cool, check out this: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/12/

Mouse gestures. By right clicking and dragging the mouse in different ways you can do different things with the browser, such as opening/closing tabs/windows, going forward and back and so on. Very useful. Also, you should install adblock and the filter set updater to never see an advertisement again.

K-Meleon is the best web browser bar-none.

It is 100% customizable, runs on the Gecko Engine, and it has all the features people love and adore about the other browsers into one.

It is quick and minimalistic though.

And it has Mouse Gestures, crap-loads of skins and themes, and you can move set up your button layout anyway you want.

Oh yeah, and you broyght a topic back from the dead jrblast

haskell, this is a topic in Featured Poll, meaning it's not gonna hurt.

K-Meleon is for Windows only, meaning it's not the best

This leaves Firefox to take somewhere around #1

Author:  Clayton [ Sat Feb 10, 2007 4:55 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Firefox

platform most certainly does matter. If you make something available to some people and not others, it's not the best out there.

Author:  haskell [ Sat Feb 10, 2007 6:03 pm ]
Post subject:  RE:Firefox

It is a available to everyone. Anyone can, in theory, use it.

It just hasn't been ported yet(but it will be ported).

Being multi-platform isn't even a real factor in being the best. Infact, being the best is a mere opinion of an individual or group.

Let's say, hypothetically, that I have a 100% cure for any type of cancer. It only works on North Americans, but it will be made to work for others in the near future. Jjust because it only works for North Americans now, is there any better medication that works against cancer? Since the criteria is working against cancer, than no, there isn't. Making this particular medication the "best out there" against cancer, despite only being usable by North Americans.
