Ok, does anyone know how to make output on a LED using parallel ports and a breadboard? using turing. This is an comp engineering question, since my friend doesn't wanna post it herself, I'll post it for her. I dunno what info is important, but please post all the steps? I'll give 20 bits to whoever does, and if it works. and if this doesn't have to be done in turing (aka, a ezier way, tell me pls) prolly needs parallelput. tell me everything, cause I don't know what is useful. |

Okay, you have to use parallelput(). What you have to do is find which LED corresponds to the number you put in. You should know binary for this. I will try to write up a table or something: To "access" pin 1: parallelput(1) To "access" pin 2: parallelput(2) To "access" pin 3: parallelput(4) To "access" pin 4: parallelput(8) To "access" pin 5: parallelput(16) To "access" pin 6: parallelput(32) To "access" pin 7: parellelput(64) To "access" pin 8: parallelput(128) and so on (my table follows): PIN: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 NUM: 1 2 4 8 16 32 64 128 If you want to access multiple pins you just add the numbers together that access the pins you want to access. So if you want to access pins 1, 3, 5 then you would just add the numbers that are under the PIN numbers that you want to access (or turn on the LEDs). So it would be: 1 + 4 + 16 = 21 parallelput(21) And that's it, I hope I'm right I haven't done that for a long time and even when I did it I didn't really understand it too much. You can always use QBasic if you want. |

Haha, slow dial-up sucks. My Comp. Eng. class was just like Paul's, I'm glad that I had Comp. Sci. the same semester as Comp. Eng. because it made the final project really damn easy. In Comp. Eng., you practically would have had to learn the same amount of Turing that you learn all year in Comp. Sci. in 2 weeks of Comp. Eng. I laughed at people at the time because they got around 70 percent on the FP and I got around 99 percent thanks to knowing Turing. |

Yes, my avatar is large. But it's a good gif. I have plenty larger ones, and they're all by the same animator (i'm assuming since it's all in black and white). besides, it's a good show, and you can just block it if you're using Mozilla. Anyways, some good anime would be: Trigun (top of my list, and i watched bebop/eva/naruto) Last Exile Heat Guy J And no Hikaru no Go please. I'm going to have to agree with Amailer on this one. And if you don't want to get rid of the spam section couldn't we at least do some of the following? - Change the name to offtopic (so as to change the emphasis from stupid topics to interesting discussions) - Change the forum theme. This pale blue is really getting on my nerves. - Get rid of the name/rank colour effects (or at least the bright ones), they can get really ugly looking, especially with the pale blue theme we've got here. That's just my opinion, but I really think it could improve this site (and we all know it could do with improvement). |

what ISP do u have? b/c i bet they cap it at some speed. Also most cable comnpleys have a cap on badwith witch sucks, but bell's adsl has no limits on bandwith witch is nice if u have a 150gb bandwith per month. |

well ok it basically boils down to this: ADSL is better for downloads and Cable is better off for uploads. But cable is shared with ur entire neighbourhood. so once it get popular.. its bound to slow down. as far as adsl goes.. its a leased line.. and you hog it alone. |

Also b/c the line is shared with cable it brings up secruity issues, so u better have a firewall. Also from what i have seen most of the cable comapnys around here are prity craping as in they do cheap evil things like cap bandwith and such. While bell has aucaly been being good to its cumomers for the most part (other then that hole msn+ thing). For examle they upgrade there speed from 2mbps max to 3mbps max with no chage in cost. they also upcaped bandwith like a year ago. Alougth bell may be a big evil comapy at least they are not being evil with there ISP part (other then the msn carp, that is just dum). |

i do have a capped bandwith.. but they dont care if u go over.. plus its pretty reasonable. and as for the sharing thing, every house on my street uses cable internet and thats the speed i get so im pretty satisfied with that.. my friends tried simpatico but they didnt like it too much |

I've used sympatico and rogers cable. Sympatico right after using rogers, so I have a clear memory. Sympatico download speed is much faster than rogers for me. |

I think DSL just might be crap in my area. My friend has DSL from sympatico and it's just garbage. I live about 5 minutes away and have DSL from MNSi and it's better (but nothing fantastic) which is weird because in the end the service is supposedly provided by Sympatico... ah well, the speed is alright for now. |

the quality of your phone lines both in your home and in the area around you can greatly effect the speed of bell's DSL. Also if you live along way away from the one of there hub stations or w/e they call them it can also be effected. And if the setings on your comp are not right it also slows it down, u can look up some tewak pages to find out how to get the max setings. |

i got that email too amailer.. i think hotmail is WORRIED as hell..... all their money from ads and pop ups is gona decrease cuz were going to gmail!

hell no... i use firefox... and b4 i knew of firefox... i used AddKiller by Buypin (100% free) wicked pop up stoper.... still.. i used IE for hotmail... (because MSN opens Ie by default even thought firefox is DEFAULT internet borwser) stupid M$... but w/e now days i use my hotmail accounts less and less (only to check if someone emailed me there by acident..) |

There's an extension for firefox which I believe prevents all flash animations from playing unless you click on them and allow them to run. |

Yes, obviously. It removed any aspect of the site you want it too. And modified the HTML code so that it looks sexy, I took a screenshot of my hotmail so that you can see the differences. http://xiplst.uni.cc/hotmailsads.zip One is in IE, and the other in firefox. I also added a shot of the tab on the main compsci page, so that you can see that I can remove any flash I want. It's in the same zip. 
It even get's rid of google ads. It has an option to remove the frames too. And it basically rewrites the page's html code to exclude it, and make the page look neat. So far it's worked flawlessly. And really does a good job and reomving the ads. Now I won't have to pay sourceforge to get rid of the ads on the site.
