Waterloo Schedule

Post subject:  Waterloo Schedule

So I can see my schedule now, but it seems awfully bare. I know I only have 2.0 / 2.5 units so I still have to add one class, but without it, its still only approximately 11 and a half hours of classes. I do not see this going much above 15 hours even with my fifth course added to the schedule.

http://cl.ly/0B471Z0N1g0k432y0k1N is the link to my schedule.

Does this look like a normal first year schedule?

Post subject:  RE:Waterloo Schedule

Yeah, pretty much. Typically you are looking at 2x time if you include assignments/readings, more for projects and tests. Although 1st year is there to bring everyone up to the same level, so the difficulty will vary, depending on how strong you are coming into University.

that's SE and that's what my schedule will look like in sept...crap, hopefully I have time to social :/

Post subject:  RE:Waterloo Schedule

You can socialize during all of those labs/tutorials Laughing Actually it's in your best interest to do so, as it's a lot of work to do on your own.

Why do I have so few classes compared to SE. Sad and I noticed under the description of say, CS 135:
CS 135 LAB,LEC,TST,TUT 0.50

yet theres no lab on my schedule.

Or for Math 135:
MATH 135 LEC,TST,TUT

While I do not have a tutorial, only a lecture.

What's up with that Razz

Post subject:  RE:Waterloo Schedule

You have the same number of Lectures. Engineering TUT/LAB time is kind of like scheduled assignment-work time.

For CS 135, there is no scheduled lab. By "LAB" they just mean the assignments that are due every week which you have to do on your own time.

As for math 135 there are no tutorials anymore. If you look on the official schedule of classes you will notice there are no tutorials schedules either. I strongly suggest you use the math tutorial center though, it is really helpful for the assignments, which can be pretty challenging.

This isn't my schedule seeing as I'm not going to Waterloo, but I have a twin brother who's going there, and hey, we're basically the same person. So here it is, posted entirely without his permission. It's pretty nasty.

Hmm.. I'm not sure if I should take that Phys 121 Lab... Can I ask why you took it? And does that mean you have 2.75 units this term?

^ I don't have any clear purpose of taking the physics lab.

Also, after reading what monkey had to say...

monkey @ Sun Nov 01, 2009 12:48 am wrote:

PHYS121: Most of what we`ve learnt is an extension of the mechanics we learnt in high school, with significantly more challenging problems. There is content in this course that is not present in the Ontario high-school curriculum (at least I dont think so) e.g. rotational dynamics and angular momentum. They used to teach special relativity in PHYS 121, but unfortunately they removed it this year. And Endless, this course IS NOT super-easy. It is the standard first-year course for physics majors. For some reason, some of the assignment questions require integration, which we have not covered in math.

PHYS121LAB: Don`t take this course if you don`t have to . It is a waste of time. We are expected to write our lab report during the lab itself. There simply isn`t enough time to write a good lab report. I find that the lab-reports I write in this class are sub-par to even the lab-reports I wrote in high-school. There is no time to do the calculation for uncertainties, nor enough time to do a proper analysis of your results and evalution of experimental errors. They ask the TAs to mark the lab reports easy, but there is simply no point to taking a course in which nothing is learnt. It is almost like the opposite of learning since our lab reports are worse than in high-school, due to the time constraints. I am very dissapointed with this course.

...I think I shouldn't take it.

Edit: Yes, Lab counts as 0.25, so I currently have 2.75.

according to my list view, i have got: [2741 003 LEC Th 19:00 - 21:50 RCH 101 Larry Smith 12/09/2011 - 05/12/2011]

however it does not show on the weekly calendar view. what does it mean?

//just curious, hare there any opinions on the following lecturers; Robert Mann(phy); Edward Vrscay(calc); Rahim Moosa(algebra); Troy Vasiga(CS)?

@cheese_cake
Vasiga is good. I had him for a sample lecture (showing 3 sorting algorithms) during March-break Open House.
For others, you can check Rate My Professors.

Vasiga came into my high school one morning this year and he seemed pretty good even though most of the material he covered I already knew. (I think our teacher picked the content that was going to be covered and Vasiga just came up with the problems and presented it) I still learned a bunch about stuff that i thought i knew
