It's in the "Profile" icon at the top of the forum. At the bottom there's an avatar upload form to fill out. The restrictions are listed there.

I'm no mod, but I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with a marijuana leaf. We've had worse Laughing Laughing Laughing

I don't care much for what your avatar is, as long as

a) Dan doesn't find it offensive
b) It's not large enough to mess with page formating

Keep in mind that users are identified by their avatar prior to their username, so

a) don't use an avatar that will get you confused with somebody else (bouncy faeries)
b) try to keep your avatar constant

Blade started it. I think JSBN used the same avatar for the whole time. Dammit, all the cool people have left!

Dan dose not but if i get complantes form other users then i may. This is a pg-13 site and i think that drug use is with in pg-13, tho user incons can also not offend poeleop. Such as puting the pot leaf on the canadian falg, that offendens peoleop.....but just a pot leaf is fine i think. But as tony was saying this is how poleop will idenify you, if you whont them to think pot when they see your posts that is up to you.

He was the one who exposed the fact that the newest version of Turing was online. According to another user, that is why Tom West decided to stop developing Turing.

I think it's more likely that he just finally realised Turing wasn't worth it.

I guess if there is anything that i actually contributed to this site , it would be that.

mmm The Day i found a fresh open link to some new software that was just waiting to be exposed to the world.

So many good things came about becuase of that update including DANsprites. which were awsome might i add. and so many cool programs taht used the 4.0.5 functions.

Im proud to have released it to the world. Tom west has no one to blame, we all gladly used his language and he gladly picked up his cheque every month from all the licencing.

I don't get it... How is that 'exposing' it?
I know for a fact that my school has 4.0.5, so wouldn't they give out the program (because of the licence fees) to students, which would then use it? I don't see how telling people about this is exposing it in any way, other than the lack of $5.
It's not like it wasn't released already <= main point

Dude i found it i believe 2 years ago.

way way back. and we here had a legal link to turing . i believe its 75$ to buy from holtsoft.

it was one of hte biggest things to hit compsci. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy so your wrong in saying that you guys had it and that it was out.

Yes, I know that you told everyone about it, and that it was a 'free' copy of Turing. My point is, that it was still available at schools where you could get a copy basically free too.

It's actually not legal for secondary schools to distribute the program to students for home use. (Only teachers have that privilege). Smile

I think shorthair is right, it's about $75 for purchase.

It was not widley available in schools.

we were the only school that had acess to it , becusae we hadto do a final project that required using funictions that TOm West didnt finish in hte release we had which was 4.0.4c

I released 4.0.5 here , before anyone had ever even heard of such a thing

Ah, I see... So they only released it to schools later on.

Let's hope someone chooses a good replacement language sometime soon - I would be happy with python or ruby.

Actually, they can. My school does, legally. Here's an excerpt from HSA's own site:
HSA wrote:
Purchase a site license. This license allows you to install the software on a set number of machines in the institution The price includes free upates to the software within the version. (i.e. 1.0 to 1.x).

A site can also purchase an additional license to redistribute the software to their students free of charge. If they do not, then they may not redistribute the software to their students.

Strange... seems to me that turing has nothing to do with the OT...

I'm still going to thank shorthair for helping to bring an end to turing... I only used it for one semester... but that was enough to make me hate it.
