Works perfectly in Gaim, or any other Jabber client, for that matter.

Has anyone tested its "Call" feature yet? Is the quality really good, like as if person is in the next room...or same room?

Update: Myself and Hikaru79 tested out the VOIP stuff and it worked really well. It's comparable to a phone (although I'd say better); and it's WAY better then my cell phone is. Anyways I'm off to work, but have fun experimenting!

I got Google Talk last nite, but I had no one to add.

so add timmytheturtle@gmail.com

Yeah, that's point of this thread. Since this is a new service right, so no one has any contact to add. Therefore, we're starting a little community here. I have, hm, 4 people on an 2 waiting. (That would be Martin and Cervantes) Wink

Update: Call quality is awsome. But make sure the other person you're speaking with has headphones, because you really trip yourself out when speaking, since you hear what you just said 2 seconds ago. Make youself sound like an idiot on the mic. Razz

Ah you mean if you have speakers instead.

I like their rename option, I think you can do it on msn, its just less accessible.
Now you are: cervantes, cornflake, hikaru, martin, notoroge and wtd. And if coutsos signs on, you know what his name is gonna be ... not coutsos on my list thats for sure Wink

hm... and it automatically sorted everything too.

You hear yourself through the speaker's of the other person's computer, since their mic is picking up their speaker's output. Hence, why both parties should use head-sets if possible. This isn't just about Google. Just, when talking online in general.

Are you implying I'm a lesbian? Sir, I am insulted and demand satisfaction!

Yeah, I might actually try this but I'm not running Linux right now, and when I am I can't get the mic to work... anybody else experience this?

These are very old conventions. Smile

yep i'd expect _some text_ to underline it.. not italicize it.. the bold seems standard.. but i haven't yet figured out how to underline a word..hmm

Since it's just Jabber, perhaps some other Jabber clients already have this, just not Gaim? And if not, now that Google Talk uses it, and it is not just some fringe player, perhaps more devs will focus on client development for Jabber. Maybe. We can hope.

well that's a shame. Oh well, I'm using Adium anyways. I find it's ability to group same contacts connected over different protocols. No double entries Wink

For those on a Mac, googleTalk is added as a jabber account, and connect server is talk.google.com the rest is default.

So you're saying you're not a lesbian and you demand satisfaction from me that I cannot otherwise give to you if you were a lesbian? o0

Hehe, I think I'm gonna go read the help files now, Hikaru's doing cool stuff to Google Talk.

I've been experiencing certain oddities with Google Talk. Occassionally I am not able to go to websites/download files, it will say "forbidden" or it will time out, and when I close Google Talk, I am able to go to the sites and download files. Anyone have similar experiences?

You are saying it restricts your internet access? Are you using the official Google client or using Jabber in some custom IM program? Try using something other than the google one.

yea official google client.

some experiences:

1. I go to a website, it immediately says "not found", I close google talk, I go to it again, it loads.

2. I download a video file, instead of downloading it, it streams... wmv... in quicktime o0 . And I can't right click and save as. I close google talk, it works as I click it.

3. I download a file, it says blah blah hostname cannot be found, close google talk, retry, it works.

no firewall, one router, no anti virus.
