As promised at a previous QuakeCon, the source code for Id Software's Quake 3 Arena has been placed under the GPL. You can download it here! (5.5 MB large). It comes with project files for Win32 and OS X, and a build script for Unix, which makes it a breeze to compile yourself. |

Ahhh, but in order to actually run the game you need to have all the associated resources... this is just the engine. However if your interested in figuring out how a top notch (for it's time) FPS engine works it's a great example! |

It's true that it is missing models, textures, etc, but it will not be very long before dozens of developers release their own, to go with the engine. Entire games, perhaps! Like you say, this isn't an alternative to buying Quake or anything ... just something to give F/OSS developers to work with! Awfully nice of Id isn't it? ![]() |

Ah, I preferred the actual QuakeCon tournament ![]() Anways, maybe they will release some good open source Q3 games now. They will release games, but I am doubting the 'good' part ![]() |
