In FF5, when you're at the bar where you meet the pirate that ends up being the first girl's sister, there's a piano you can "play." That is, you can "play" it just as you can "interact" with NPCs. It only played one, SNES powered tune. Who knows, there could've been more. But I very much doubt you ever had the freedom in one of the games to play an instrument in the same way as you could in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask (that I know of). Also, unless you go there in a later point of the game, wasn't the part with Tifa's room just a flashback? |

ya you can play that piano there are also secret tunes that you can play to get into tifa's stash but I think you can only play after a certain disc... |

back to the original topic of Anime North.. would someone mind letting me know when anime has turned gay? Has anyone actually went over the program outline? Anything standing out? yaoi seemed to have been the dominating theme, not even counting shows as Gravitation. I've heard that some booth sold out of certain sizes of "got yaoi?" t-shirts and I've seen another table selling an alternative design. to restate the question -- since when do anime conventions have such things as "panel: gay sex 101 -- 18+" listed under their events? |

Yaoi manga has been on the rise for the past few months, and most predominantly in the US. Yaoi manga (and some yuri too I believe) are being licensed left, right and centre. There's been at least 2 yaoi-themed animé to reach their airs of Japan in the last few seasons. Thus far, only one "Loveless" has peaked the ears of the fansub community to any extent. Why you ask? Could be any number of reasons really. But I wouldn't be half surprised if somewhere in the far reaches of this apparent movement, we found O-Kishimoto-sensei waving his little Konoha flag. You have to admit, the yaoi themes have been prevelant throughout Naruto, albeit in a harmless, timid, and artful form (expect the meeting of Orochimaru and Kimimaro...that was just wrong ![]() Ok, I'm done. |

bleach is good, I do like FMA better... so far. But I swear I saw this yaoi thing coming, at every turn there were fangirls drawing male characters to be more female looking (me asking "why the hell would you do that?") and fanfics involving this stuff (especially naruto fangirls), I swear on several occassions I overhear the "weird girls table" talking about this shit at lunch. Do all girls find this appealing? I find it as coutsos said to be some kind of freakshow, but the fact stands that most of the girls i've talked to on this topic have cleverly talked around a straight answer (no pun intended ![]() |

Am I the only one who thought Envy was a girl? |
Author: | Paul [ Mon Jun 06, 2005 3:01 pm ] |
Post subject: | |
I dunno, the voice of Envy is pretty distinguishing as a boy's voice, as far as animé goes. But that dude in hikaru no go or w/e... now THAT is confusing. |
Author: | Mazer [ Mon Jun 06, 2005 6:31 pm ] |

Envy was just weird. The voice was pretty un-feminine (I wouldn't really say masculine), but with the style of dress it was a little harder to tell. |

Well, I've only read the first and about half of the second, but I do plan to eventually buy them all (as a nice box set if possible). They were intended for children, I think, (as I remember, my sister read them all when she was younger, and my first memories of the story was an animated cartoon ("It's--it's--Aslan! *dies*")) but they capture magic and fantasy nicely. Something I'm always looking for if you pay attention to my bitchings. Ontopic: Sakura x Tomoyo was a bit worrying as well. |

Oh good grief! Wait a few more months and then call it Mainstream. For now it's good, mostly wholesome, barely thought-provoking, but mainly eye-dazling good fun. IMHO, animé is one of the most superbly marketed products in existence - and I'm not talk about NA marketing either. The way the products roll onto shelves in Japan is startling... I've always been amazed that because it's niche here, the DVDs often feature little more than 4 eps each. Thus we get dozens of 'volumes' for a single series. Look at Inu Yasha - already up to 30-something volumes! Take any NA show, and bam! released season-by-season. Ah well, I guess ViZ needs to make money somehow... ![]() Does anyone else think that DB is the most powerful group out there? I mean, it's gotten to the point where they only have their IRC channels open for specific periods of time...but then again they are also followed by hundreds of thousands of salivating, drooling, and mostly glazed-eyed fanatics... Hey, I know some of them! I don't know any other group that can do that and get away with it. It's a little impressive, but of course a homage to what - oh wait, I guess it is mainstream then. ![]() |
