Teehee, I got a field trip with my compsci class today to go watch the first (well, technically second) screening of the movie. Laughing Happy times. Heard it's going to be good. Anyone got any comments about it? Did you dress up as a wookie and go to the midnight screening? Got photos? Wink

Star Wars mania!

strange, its already out in BT Razz (but with the timestamp on top but still its good!)
anyhow, YES.

Post subject:

Just came back. Shocked You must go watch it. It's a "sick" movie. Razz Seriously, I & II have nothing on this, especially I. And the fact that the story in this third one must tie in with "A New Hope", means Lucas has less room to screw up, no? Honestly though, the best Star Wars yet; aside from V. Wink

My only pet peave was the wookie / tarzan thing [trying to be vague so as to not spoil it], and when Anakin finds out Padme died. Other than that, all good. Smile

Decent For a Cam ( impretty sure it is) And it sNot Telesynced, the audio Goes off by about a 1 lip movement every now and then, But For Some Reason it hs the Movie 2 times , but the 2nd time cuts off half way thorough.

Say a 12:00 AM Showing HEre In London , it s a great flick

I saw it last night.Ouch.

Lucas would have had a hard time making it any more obvious that he was just cashing in. The acting was painful and there was a pointless lightsaber fight ever 3 minutes.

It was so bad it started to get funny in the middle of it.

It's got this B movie charm to it, I must admit, but it's just resounding proof that the real Star Wars died a long time ago.

Star Wars acting has always sucked - I sitll have to see one where their acting is actually good..... but anyhow, how was the special effects? better/worse/same?

I just skipped to the last post and it looked like you were suggesting that Lunar released a bootleg of Ep3. Smile
(I also always wait for Lunar's releases, just because I'm already accustomed to their style already)

I think I'll go see Star Wars next week sometime. Alot of people from my work went to see it at midnight apparently. Yep, it turns out I'm surrounded by nerds.

Lol, ya - same. I actually found it quite hard, it goes pretty fast (I was playing 'clarinet' lol) Well, we were doing Broadway songs, so we chose that and "memory" from I don't know where.

Anyways, this is really off topic in and off topic post, so ya...

It was a happy ending. Anakin got what he deserved for killing innocents (no matter how blind you are, you'd have to be insane to kill children). But in the end he did bring balance to the force. (If you only watch the movies and do not follow the entire storyline, then you wouldn't understand what I'm talking about, entirely.) In the end where they showed the babies, it made the title 'A new hope' very adequate.

ya the clarinet part and the flute part in that go quite fast, as my band is playing it too lol i was soo happy (i play trumpet btw) but when i finally found the movie to watch it, it was great! not hard to follow, quite easy in fact.

The first half of the movie is pretty gay. Whoever wrote the script needs to get fired. The guy who plays anikin (Christenson?) does a bad job of playing anikin when he is good, after he turns evil I think he did a pretty good job, mostly because he looks the part. Even though the first half sucked, the last 30 minutes was well done.

Yeah, since those movies were made a good 20 years earlier, they didn't coriograph (sp?!!) the fights as well, and they weren't as good at the blue/green screen effects. Do you see people jumping around huge platforms in Eps 4-6? No. Too bad, because now it looks like those guys in 4-6 didn't know how to use the force as well, when in reality they should be even stronger in some cases.

Author:  Bacchus [ Wed Jun 01, 2005 7:16 pm ]

But then that leads to the question again, Are they going to redo Eps. 4-6? Myself, I think they will. To make them all fit together well, but probably mainly to rake in more money.

No. Although George Lucas *did* write novels of the first three films, they were published AFTER Star Wars was released in theatres. The plot was completely new to everyone, it wasn't from any book. In fact, Mark Hamill himself didn't know that Darth Vader was his father until about five minutes before the scene was shot -- until then, he had been given a script that read that Obi-Wan had killed his father. Then, right before that scene was to be filmed, he was pulled over and told "Here's the real script." Apparently this measure was taken because they didn't want Mark to *act* like he knew the truth in the rest of the scenes (since movies are rarely shot in order).

That's really interesting... sort of like the prison level scene in A New Hope where Harrison Ford intentionally didn't learn his lines for when he was speaking over the intercom so his reaction would be better.

On the other hand, I saw Ep 3 last night. The title came on and I began to remember what I loved about the movies when I was just a nerdling in the seventh grade. My eyes were tearing up during the opening crawl. But just after that it sucked completely.

I wanted to be able to say something like "wtf are you nerds talking about? He did a great job with this movie!" But the truth is he didn't. I hated the special effects. The original movies looked good because they weren't the whole focus. Now Lucas has made three movies where the whole message is "Look, I have ILM, aren't you impressed??"

I'd bitch about specific things but I don't like spoilers. If you've seen the rest of the movies, my bitching couldn't stop you from seeing this one anyways.

No, I'm here for decent grammar and punctuation.

As I explained, I wanted to like the movie. I was really looking forward to it. And I was really disappointed.

Anyway, I haven't seen the movie yet, the previous two weren't that great, though i suppose it's difficult to live up to 30 years of hype...

Yeah, the other one seemed too long. Not to mention Eric Raymond's controversial maintenance of the Jargon File.

George Lucas said there is no way that he is going to do another movie - he is done with making Star Wars. If anything it will probably be by someone else, but can they?

I hope someone else makes them. Someone who will hire people who can actually act. Imagine how sweet that would be! A star wars movie with real acting!!

He can't legally "give them to someone else" because George Lucas was kicked out of the Director's Guild in the eighties over Empire and Jedi, and the guild doesn't let you work with non-guild workers. That's part of the reason why Lucas' casting selection was so limited as well. Any other director taking over for Star Wars would be basically committing career suicide. Supposedly Lucas actually asked Spielberg to direct a prequel (Lucas didn't direct Empire, either), but was turned down because it would be way too risky for Spielberg's membership of the guild.

There *is* however, a confirmed TV series coming out in the next few years. And I don't mean the "Clone Wars" cartoon, I mean a literal live-action series... something to look forward to Very Happy

Possibly building off of the extended universe stuff. Star Wars didn't entirely end when George said so. Supposedly the New Jedi Order books are good.

I've heard from reliable sources that it features the adventures of a buttoned-down young Jedi and a brash, mercurial Sith. It's going to be called "Darthma and Greg".

Maybe for kids. And I don't mean that in a "omfg, George Lucas can't make good movies anymore" way, either. Episodes 4, 5, and 6 were the ultimate spoilers. After seeing (and partly memorizing) those movies, there is nothing to gain from seeing the prequels.
If you've seen the first three you can be sure that:
- Anakin turns to the Dark Side of the Force
- His children are Luke and Leia (though they are hidden from him)
- All of the Jedi (except Yoda and Obi-Wan) are killed
You ALREADY know what will happen, so you can get nothing incredible out of the story, and everything else just seems like (very boring) filler.

I'm thinking that had I seen all of the movies in order (of events, not creation) I would've hated 1, 2 and 3 much less. But Jar Jar wasn't helping anything.

heh heh jar jar and the gungans Laughing
even if you know what ultimately happens, you still want to see how all the jedi wre wiped out and how it actually happened was pathetic.

I was planning on not seeing it. I only went against my better judgement because a friend said I'd like it. Foolish me, trusting a girl on Star Wars related decisions.

I'll agree with the Jedi part though. Lucas truly did mess that up, IMO.
