The auto protect on my Norton Antivirus 2005 is disabled and I cant turn it back on. Ive gone to the website, look for threats and everything, and its detected nothing. Ive run a full system scan on my comp using norton, and nothing has popped up there either. Whats wrong with my computer is it always tries to run a file called "run.exe" when I log onto my account (and any other account, on XP) and I can't find it anywhere on my computer (using search and actually looking for the location of it in system32), but what it does is send a link to everyone on my msn to some freewebs site that doesn't display anything, and repeats it like every 5 minutes. Has anyone else run into this problem? |

run.exe could be one of several worms, remote access trojans or other malware. You have likely been infected. Secure your box next time and hopefully this won't happen. Norton isn't a very good solution for antivirus software. I recommend Kapersky, as it consistently detects more malware than competitors and has extended definitions that go beyond just virus/remote access trojans/malware. There is a worm going arround on MSN right now for the past few days. There are several variants that behave in different ways http://webforum.mweb.co.za/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=77090 http://www.computing.net/security/wwwboard/forum/15182.html http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Big_problem_from_an_unknown_virus-t20916.html http://forums.techguy.org/history/t-357412.html http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.bropia.html#removalinstructions http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_133357.htm http://www.jayloden.com/check.htm My advice, SECURE YOUR SYSTEM, PRACTICE SAFE HEX and you signifigantly reduce your risk of infection. If this is the currently worm it requires you to click the URL given via the messenger program and run an executable. Hope I was able to help. |

Norton is indeed a good anti-virus program; however the worm that you have may not be considered a "virus" by norton, so they haven't included it in their virus defs as quickly as other anti-virus products. Rember, spyware is not a virus nessarily, so not everything is gonna get caught. You have to remember to be smart when you download thigns and accept links from others. |
