Latitude and Longitude

Anyone wanting a challenge...well, I need help.

Here's the deal:

We have the latitude and longitude coordinates of some point on the earth. We'll call this point, in a cartesian coordinate system (0,0)

Now, we have a planar map, and on that map we have another point, called (x,y).

The problem is this: how do I find the latitude and longitude of this point (x,y) taking into account the curvature of the earth. It must be accurate to within a metre.

Now, if the earth were spherical, this wouldn't be a problem, however the earth is an elipsoid, and not a perfect one at that.
