Slightly related to current topic:

Suppose somebody asked for your car keys so that they could get inside and use that cigarette lighter thing (I actually don't even have it, but she wouldn't believe me). Suppose also that you are not a smoker, and don't support smoking.
Would it be acceptable to refuse them?

I said no, and suggested she get a glass of water instead, but I don't know...

uh was she hot?
If yes, then your an asshole and a fag for not letting her use the cig. lighter you don't have.

If no, then you did the right thing.

But seriously......if you have something you can offer and it doesn't impact you in any way....then your an asshole if you don't help them out. Who are you to judge someone for what they do?

That's the part that concerned me. It didn't really affect me in any way, and it's not as though I were helping her. Was I?
Not that I could have helped with the lighter bit at all.

Thanks.

I think you did the right thing for the falowing reasons;

1. you where thinking of her long term well being not her short term, witch in my option is better then just helping in the short term esptaly when that help realy only hurts in the long.

2. Helping her whould hurt you if she smoked close to you, and it whould hurt others if she smoked close to them, thos hurting more then one person who did not ask for it.

3. By stoping one person from smoking even in the short term, it make it seem like smoking is less acpetable in socity witch will be help many futtuer generations as well as our helath care system.

4. Just b/c you can do somthing for some one with litte cost to you and they ask u to does not make it right to do so. For example if they asked u to give them a gun so they could kill them slevels or some one eltes. This whould defatly not be helpfull........

Would you guys have a problem with the girl wanting to use the lit cig. to say perhaps burn a leech off of herself?

Smoking's really not that bad. Just stay in shape and you can get away with doing whatever you want to yourself.

In any case, our health care system relies on smokers. Let them smoke as much as they want.

ROFL, i am shure the cigrent companys whould love peoleop bliveing that line. I am sorry to infrom you there martin but staying in shape is not going to save you from lung canser. And you are forgeting the peoleop you hurt around you with 2nd hand smoke.

As for octopi, it auctaly is agested the law in most places to server peoleop drinks when you know they are comeply wasted and if you do you becom resoable for what they do while drunk. 2ndly a drink does not do as much damage as a cirgret to your body unless you are binge drinking but in the same kind of case if u when nuts with cirgrests at the same level you whould probly hurt your self just as bad or worse.

The leach example makes not sceen whats so ever tho, b/c i was talking about things that hurt in the long therm and only give litte happyness in the short. Leting them remvoe the leach helps both in the long and short. (unless of corse you blive that leachs can heal like in the old days =p).

Also smoking does not just hurt the one person but 2nd hand smoke hurts the ones around them......

I binge drink almost every weekend, smoke occasionally, and yet I'm in better shape than most people that I know.

Yeah, smoking's bad for you, but exercise will definately lessen the effects. Cancer's not the only bad thing that comes from smoking.

unfortunatly one of my ex was a smoker that later on quit cuz I told him I wanted to break up if he doesn't stop ^^

and another thing... when you start throwing up when you're drunk you're body is telling you to stop!

And I rarely drink to that point. And Dan, I'll still be in great shape in my 50's. My chronic addiction to the gym will ensure that.

no never kissed one and never will

well if you smoke that doesn't matter cuz you're lungs would just be covered in tar and guess what cancer can't be prevented if you smoke and think about the people around you... you're basically just giving them cancer with your second hand smoke

Mhen, Life causes cancer, but I prefer not to help it along by smoking... and seeing as i'm actually allergic to smoke... Besides, I've only seen you smoke a hooka martin, so unless you've picked smoking up working for DND...

The nice thing about cigarets is that if you give 'em a short spray with some pure oxygen they burn up real quick... occationally taking facial hair with them Very Happy

I've read in numerous places that, after only about 72 hours without a cigarette, approx. 80% of the health hazards it poses go away. After several months, a few years, it's like you've never smoked at all. Although it's certianly not healthy, the effects do seem to wear away pretty quickly.

I'm not condoning smoking (hell no, it's disgusting) but I'm also not too convinced with the whole "Oh my god, you smoke, good luck surviving your twenties" mentality.

I think that realy depedns on how long you smoked for b4 you stoped. The tar build up whould not excatly disaper over night, i am think if thos reports are trute at all they are refuring to other side effects of smoking. And even tho some may go away it will never go away completly.

Also martin thos things u listed do not even come close to the effects of cigertes. And even if they did you have no right to posion other peoleop.........

I am sooooooo gald lakehead is 100% smoke free, if you smoke anywhere on land owned by the uni you will get a fine (well if u are cougth). Also the budlings have exteamly sesetive smoke dectores so that helps with the peoleop smoking in rez.

And in others it is just as bad as smoking cigertes, shure it is not the same chemicals but it still can lead to some very negtive long term effects. Tho i am shure some one will arouge that weed is 100% ok, and it will never hurt you witch is total B.S. but i say fine then go somke till you have canser and tuoble breathing, just do not do it in front of non smokers we whould like to my the choice to kill our selves slowly our self and do not need your 2nd hand smoke of any kind.
