Alright, what exactly do the model numbers on the Athlon processors represent? My friend told me that the numbers are a comparison to Intel Pentium 4 processor clock speeds, because he's getting a laptop with a Athlon (XP?) 3500 and he said it's equal to a Pentium 4 with 3.5 GHz. Please help. |

They are in comparison to AMD's own "Thunderbird" Athlon at 1GHz. An Athlon64 3500+ should, therefore, be at least three and a half times faster than a 1GHz Athlon. |

But yes, you can roughly equate them to the Pentium 4 with the same number (ie. 3000+ runs a bit faster than a p4 3.06GHz.) This gets totally screwed up in the higher end models though, so you'd be best to just check out benchmarks. |
