So is Easter on this day every year? Personally, it's a bit difficult to keep track. |

I have a feeling that this is going to be one of the holidays that dies out as religion slowly continues its decline. Ahh well, I won't say no to a long weekend (actually, I tried, but they said that work was closed and I couldn't come in.) |

Err... Victoria day is to celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday (or something else related to her, but i'm fairly certain it's her birthday). From the looks of things it might be a good day to learn how to spell... |

see???...You don't even know what Victoria Day is for, and even if it's to celebrate her birthday, shouldn't we actually celebrate it on that date?? btw: see?? No spelling errors!! ![]() ![]() |

actually, it never says in the bible that Jesus died on friday.. ppl just misinterpreted it |

no it dosent. gee. i think ur misinterpreting it. the church wants the easter mass on the Sunday, and the three holy days: good friaday, holy saturday and "easter sunday" are consecutive (a metaphor for risen in 3 days. which is also a metaphor for risen immediately. yea a metaphor for a metaphor). hence we have the "good friday" on a "friday" also: The Holy Week starts off with Palm Sunday and includes all the days of the week some of which have special meanings:Ash Wednesday, Maunday Thursday, Good Friday & Holy Saturday. The Holy Week is the final preparation for Easter Sunday. |

Different religions handle it differently. For example, as I've suggested earlier, I don't even celebrate Easter on the same day as most people (MSN name was "Nick - Happy not-Easter-yet?"--whoops, still is). It's different every year for me (and the rest of the Orthodox), like, a few years back we celebrated Easter on the same day. Sometime after that it was before. This year it'll be on May 1st, I believe. I don't remember the reasons for why, right now I'm just trying to survive on what I would hardly consider complete breakfasts. Are there other religions that don't celebrate Easter on the same day? |

Just because you've gone to university and become surrounded by atheists doesn't mean Christianity is on it's last leg. 77% of Canadians still declare themselves as Christian as of 2001. http://www.statcan.ca/english/Pgdb/demo30a.htm Easter is the most important holiday of the Christian faith, yes even more important that Christmas. It is in no danger of becoming the next Bastille day. As Bacchus said, for most Christians the date is the first Sunday after the first full moon after or on the spring equinox. This is based on the Jewish feast of Passover (The most important feast day of the Jewish faith and easy for the early Christians to refer to Easter by reference because they were almost all Jews originally.) |
