Any other regular players here?

If not, I highly recommend it; it's free and a pretty good MMO in my opinion.

You dont know team fortress 2?

Anyways, I tried LoTR online in beta testing, but when it was released I couldn't afford the $15/month and quit. It was a pretty cool game tho.

Does it do anything differently than all the other Everquest clones (WoW, WAR, etc)? Is there any real innovation, or just the 'innovation' that every identical MMO RPG claims to have but doesn't?

Yes, it is based in Middle Earth.

It's free... It's just the usual pay for extras, like runescape or LoL.

It is essentially WoW (like pretty much exactly the same) except free.. I wish WoW was free like it lol.

It's free up to level 20. And theres a lot to be done up till there

Post subject:  RE:The Lord of the Rings Online

There is a lot to be done up to there, but it sucks because that is like 10% of the game

Post subject:  RE:The Lord of the Rings Online

It's only $15 a month. That's less than you probably pay for milk and cookies.

$15 for 816 potential hours of play time.

Author:  mirhagk [ Sat Feb 25, 2012 2:08 pm ]
Post subject:  RE:The Lord of the Rings Online

or $60 for skyrim and unlimited hours of play.

Post subject:  RE:The Lord of the Rings Online

It get's old after a while. I never liked it, but I have friends who practically lived it... for a month or two. Now most of my friends are back to MMORPG.

Skyrim is good, but WoW to Skyrim is Apples to Oranges. They are completely different.

In its own sense, WoW is worth $15/mo

Post subject:  RE:The Lord of the Rings Online

THat's what I mean I can't pay per month for games, a flat $60 for Wow would've been fine.

I spend money to save time, not to waste time on video games! I expect my video games to be free!

Yeah.... cuz every video game company is willing to spend millions of dollars to make something, and then NOT make money off of it.

I use to play it a lot! It is a pretty good game. I did like it, but I don't think it's nearly as good as Skyrim.

Most things aren't as good as skyrim.

Except Jak III.

Yeah, if I had Skyrim and a better laptop, I'd probably spend less time on LOTRO.

I still prefer to WoW, though; the latter is too complex for me.

Post subject:  RE:The Lord of the Rings Online

Off topic, but is skyrim 64-bit (I don't think it is, but it really should be, at least optionally)

And I agree Leo Crimson, I found WoW (and even Lotro) to be overly complex. It wasn't a matter of it being too hard to understand so much as there was WAY too many stats, effects and variables to be able to figure out what's best.

Author:  Insectoid [ Tue Feb 28, 2012 5:16 pm ]
Post subject:  RE:The Lord of the Rings Online

All the stats and effects and items are part of what makes WoW great. Once you understand your class and playstyle, it really isn't hard to figure out the best stats to stack. Usually there's a bare minimum value for certain skills in order to play effectively- for example, a tank needs a minimum of X defence to be uncrushable, which is necessary for tanking bosses (this is no longer the case as of the wotlk expansion).

There's also be maximums- if you have 70% chance to hit, there's no point having more than 70% chance to crit, 'cause of the way hits are calculated.

I used to spend hours just calculating if item set A is better than B. It's a huge part of the game and people love it. Unfortunately, Blizzard has been simplifying the combat system a lot through expansions and patches so a lot of the original stats have been merged, replaced or simply removed.

Well technically a non-DK tank needs 102.4% avoidance to be capped. so there still is the X Defense requirement.

I was looking into LotRO, but then I took an arrow to the knee Razz

(By that I mean I started playing Skyrim. That game is Time Well Wasted)

By that I hope you don't mean you pirate it from one of the few games fully supporting non-restrictive DRM, DRM that gives you features instead of restrcitions.

Pirating at all is for low lifes, but pirating from something that's making an active attempt to remove it's restrictions to allow the consumer to have a better product, is just lower than low.

Wait, what? I thought we were talking about LotRO.

Anyways, I don't pirate games. The only games I play are either f2p, or from Blizzard, and that's only because I get to put SC2 on my AIF as a competitive sport Razz

I'm not a big fan of pirating games either; for one thing, it's rather easy to get viruses imo.

One memorable I remember is my friend torrenting Portal 1 during the free download period (anyone else remember), and he ended up getting a virus because of that. Had to wipe his hard drive to clear out the virus; I know I shouldn't be laughing but it was a really stupid thing to do. Razz

That's when I got my copy of Portal. Loved it so much I actually paid for Portal 2.
I torrent all sorts of things. Never once got a virus. It's a matter of knowing safe sources.

The point of a torrent is that you don't know the source insectoid....... MD5 checksums and similar file checks can still make it safe, but when you torrent, you are downloading from complete strangers.

*sigh*, mirhagk, I meant only downloading files from well-known, trusted (initial) uploaders. Checking comments and ratings and using decent trackers.
