Urgent! which uni?

Post subject:  Urgent! which uni?

One more important question: The uni I am applying for now(it has a good computing reputation, but overall international ranking is shifting (some ranked it top100, some only gave it top200, all 2011 data) is far away(>1 hour extra travel including return trip on a good day, if bad day may take >90 mins extra) from my home, should I select a uni that is closer (about 90 mins travel including return trip, it ranks lower in computing but higher overall(within top100 (higher(top50) or lower according to different ranking system but always top100) internationally)?

They are two best unis in my region, should I choose the closer uni(90 mins only, the other uni needs extra 1 hour and more travelling time) although it has a lower ranking in computing? The closer one teaches Java, the other C in the 1st year.

Urgent advice needed.

up to 3 hours of commute? That's a round-trip between Toronto and Waterloo -- I think just about everyone elects to simply move to the other city for school, at such distances.

Student residence is expensive, but living with roommates off-campus (but near university) can be quite affordable. Consider the cost of commute as savings, when calculating the total cost of living not-at-home. Some Universities might provide you with much better co-op / work opportunities, which will offset the costs in the long run.

Ultimately this is a tough (but very important) decision to make -- the best option might be to apply to all of your options, do your research, and decide between the acceptances in a few months from now.

@Tony, thanks for the quick reply.

I think I may have to go for the easy travel uni and forget the higher computer ranking uni.

Maybe Java is easier than C? I find them both terribly hard!
