@manwinder -- if you reasonably believe that you'll get to improve much more than you had in previous years. What would drive that change though?

@Cool.Breeze -- that's a convincing argument.

@manwinder - Also thats one year of your life. Is it worth, one year just to have waterloo on your degree rather then guelph, york, lakehead, ottawa, etc? I recomend applying to a few so you at least have a backup and more choices if somthing goes wrong. It could mean being out in the real world a year sooner, and having a year more experince at an equivalent point in time.

but is there much of a difference between the universities

and what do u guys think of coop

the difference is in opportunities, circumstances, and the type of effort that you'd put into it. Some Universities will give you different co-op opportunities to pursue. Other Universities will host events that give you a chance to meet different sets of people. Though if you are going to fail out, then it doesn't really matter where you fail from.

Sometimes "reputation" helps, but you can't just ride that benefit out for free.

I'm not sure about Canadian universities, but in general you can't just 'go to college'. You need to be 'prepared' (whatever that is...) or at least paying attention in classes. If you're grades are at a point to where you're contemplating retaking the courses, you would probably need to work a lot harder.

Also if you fill out a resume with 'coop' instead of co-op or Co-Op, 'i' instead of I, 'no' instead of Know, run on sentence, you probably won't be accepted.

What I've learned may be a bit different from what you've learned. So forgive my trolling.

Perhaps no. Though, the quality of the the education I received definitely would matter.

My point is simply, are thoes differences worth a year of your life. If they are and you don't get into the unversity you like then by all means do another year of high school, but why not at least apply to a few backups so you have choices.

It can be a good way to gain experience and money but their may also be other options to consider. For example I particated in google summer of code one year which would have not counted as credit for co-op at my university. Another term I did some research assistant type work that proably would have not counted either as it was not full time and from home.

Where I come from we have a joke about this. The little highschooler's in their classes say "I'm going to college!". Then you assign them a book, and they say "I don't read! Are you crazy!?". Then we reply "You're going to college right?" and they obviously reply "Yes!". We follow up their optimism with "Bless your heart!"... They usually just prance down the halls all jolly like, pretending they never heard us.

But all trolling aside, It is hard work to go to college. Can't just saddle you're way in, sling around in the mud, and come out with a degree.

Perhaps in non-University-bound social circles. If you subscribe to the idea that your intelligence tends towards the average of your social circle, then you are in trouble. This is one of the advantages of going to more "prestigious" Universities. Everything else aside, at the very least you might end up in better company that will pull you up to their level (conversely, it's extra challenging to study well at "party schools").

TAD- UofT(University of toronto)

YSG- York

UFA- Wilfrid Laurier

WCS- Waterloo

QD-Queens

MCC- Mcmaster

GCT-Guelph

ok out of these which would be the best, if i were to get excepted to all of these universities except for waterloo, where should i go, would it be toronto, and if toronto and waterloo don't except then what should i choose, i am just asking to be sure, and also waterloo asks for mid 80's, last year i had an average between 80-85, will they look at that, this year it will be probably between 85-90

Author:  crossley7 [ Wed Nov 16, 2011 11:21 pm ]
Post subject:  RE:different universitys for computer related courses

top 6 including all courses that are required to apply. So for comp sci that will be English, Calculus, Advanced Functions and 3 others in most cases

Speaking from experience, you will get destroyed at UofT in your first year with those English skills. Ironic how you used "except" instead of "accept", haha. By no stretch am I saying that I have good grammar, but its not too bad and I still got hammered on writing questions during first year.
