Hi all , I will be going into grade 12 this september. I will be taking Adv Function, Calc, Chem, Physics, Comp Eng., and English. Im planning on appyling to either a Comp Eng. program or a Electrical Eng. program at waterloo (both with co-op). I can easily make the cutoff average so no worries there, but I need some halp in deciding which program I should take. If anyone currently in these programs could give a few details about them (electives, workload, etc.) I would really appreciate it Also on a side note, would co-op be better than PEY at UofT? My comp eng teacher says that co-op isn't all that great because its very hard to get anything accomplished since most of the work term is spent on training. Thanks |

The workload between the two is extremely similar, particularly since the first 3 terms are identical (see here). They also appear to have same number of electives. The advantage of coop is that you get to work six different terms at (potentially) six different places. If you choose to return to the same employer for multiple terms, you can mitigate the time spent on training. |

Probably apply to both and see where you get accepted. I'm doing a similar thing with Soft. Engineering and Comp Sci coop at U of W myself. I know that job opportunities are similar, so it really depends on which program I have more interest in. It probably depends on what fields you want available once you graduate and if it is a field where they overlap, then it depends on which gets more jobs in that area and what interests you more. |
