This is basically just another 'what browser do you prefer' thread, with a 'what browser will you prefer tomorrow' twist.

Because of Chrome's magic autoupdates, isn't any version of Chrome also the "next Chrome"? (With an obvious exception of running a Chromium snapshot)

I meant a major release...such as an increment in the "whole number" part of the version number.

EDIT: Engadget's tests of the final IE9 release: http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/14/internet-explorer-9-launches-tonight-weve-got-your-early-look/

It autoupdates "major point" releases as well.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Chrome#Release_history

8.x -- December 2010
9.x -- February 2011
10.x -- March 2011

both 11.x and 12.x already have developer releases.

I've been using Firefox 4 beta for a about a month and it's pretty awesome. I would not touch chrome with a 10 feet pole. That browser is nothing except a barely disguised spyware to record your browsing habits and phone home

I see major problems with nearly all next-gen browsers.

IE9 is made by Microsoft, and despite appearances I suspect it's another embrace-extend-extinguish cycle in progress. They also still haven't forced people to upgrade off of IE6, which means that new versions of IE just means more work for web developers trying to get IE to just render the bloody page already (currently up to 4 editions, all with different rendering / parsing quirks).

Firefox 4 inexplicably stops responding for a few seconds every few minutes. I don't know what the problem is, but I disabled "smooth scrolling" in the options and it's a lot less frequent now (and somehow, pages still scroll smoothly). This is the browser I use most frequently. It also has a bad habit of consuming huge amounts of memory (1.2GB? seriously? I know I have 6GB, but you don't need to use it all!)

Chrome has two major problems; the first is an annoying PDF bug I reported months ago that still hasn't been examined at all. The bigger, more irritating problem is that AdBlock on Chrome won't block ads in YouTube videos. Even though I only visit YouTube occasionally, that's still a big enough reason to use Firefox instead. Generally, I actually have both open at the same time and I switch back and forth.

Safari has the problem of being always the first to die at conferences like Pwn2Own. I don't know what it is, but for some reason that browser is a security mess.

Opera...well, maybe I should try Opera.

There's an extension for Chrome that blocks YouTube ads, as well as an option in Adblock to block them.

Flash Player in Chrome crashes a lot for me...and therefore, I do not use it as much. But I must admit that Chrome is my option when I am already consuming too much resources on my older computers...it is fast and good...if you do not use flash a lot (IMO at least).

BTW, behold the new logos for the new browsers:

I don't know about the extension, but I definitely have that option enabled, to no avail. Given as this was a feature from day 1 in the Firefox version, I'm unimpressed.

Firefox Beta 4 still has lots of bugs and glitches, such as the common Hotmail problem. When you view your email, the page continually refreshes, creating major problems. Test it out yourself. Download Beta 4 and try viewing your Hotmail email, if you have one. It's rather a pain to endure.

Not to diminish the importance of the bug in Firefox, but I'm pretty sure you pointed out half the source of your pain right there.

I actually downloaded IE9 and it seems good but I am to used to using the location bar in Firefox and IE didn't want to import from Firefox so I didn't bother exporting and importing and ultimately haven't touched it.

It seems really fast though.

Firefox has a RC out now and has 0 blockers from

www.canweshipyet.com

I went to my old Hotmail that bugs me to request a code over SMS and it does constantly erload the page but it seems fine.

I think it is a Microsoft thing trying to mess up Firefox.
So it is not a code bug it is a server bug, similar to the McAfee toolbar problem.

Firefox still needs a few more things, and not just copying Chrome.

Haha, no, it's quite good. Hotmail's service has nothing on my judgement of FF4.

It works fine for me...

Speech to text - I'd love to see where that takes us. Notabley cool Chrome extensions for search, url bar, and other creative uses.
