I know millions of people love Minecraft, so I decided to start a thread for just that!

Post screenshots, tips, attach world files or skins (give link to a site like mediafire since there is no attach option), and anything else you want to contribute!

If this thread takes off, I'm sure many will find pleasure from it!

The entrance is the tunnel up ahead, the way you get in is through an underwater entrance, this basically prevents creepers from coming in Very Happy

Yes, i think the addiction is more from seeing it everywhere! I wish the graphics were better though. I love sandbox style games. Must download some time.

You don't have to...it is available on their website as an in-browser demo....I downloaded it and found both the same.

I don't get why it's so addicting...all I was able to do was to lift/store and throw blocks....no other interaction
After that, all I did was to dig all the way to the magma/lava...

I think it depends on which version you get. So far, I've only played the free classic version, but the newer beta version (which costs money) apparently has a lot of new things to do.

It's basically a sandbox game. You have a character and you're all alone (in terms of other humans existing) on a globe, and you are free to build whatever you want while keeping safe from enemies.

@RandomLetters the graphics are actually as good as you want them to be... just get a different texture pack. The default textures are 16x16, but I've seen some that are like 25x25. The pixels you see in the game aren't actually the resolution of the game since your character has the ability to move between 'pixels'.

@ProgrammingFun fortunately, you have not even begun to enter the world of Minecraft...there is much more for you to explore than ejecting blocks from your inventory! *Try right-clicking!*

This is a much better turnout than I expected! Keep it going! =D

It REALLY depends on which version you play.

The classic version just allows you to place blocks, but the Minecraft beta is a survival mode, where you can also collect resources, craft items, and build structures to survive the nights and the caves you explore.

Just watch a video or two of X's Adventures in Minecraft, and see for yourself, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bh4EexJO4I">here</a> is the first one.

It's really fun until you collect enough resources that the game becomes more about building, then unless you're really creative or have friends to play it with, it can become boring. I still think its worth the money though, it really reminded me of when I was a kid and played with LEGO, and it took me awhile before I hit that point.

Started playing this towards the end of last summer. At first I stuck to the interesting servers with lava death. Those were fun.

Then multiplayer came out and dropped 10$ on it. The bugs were terrible, but back then I was just running around in single player mostly, and started surfing between servers.

Then, I discovered the modding community.

I swear, I'd probably wouldn't be as addicted to this game if I hadn't combined it with my other addiction. >.>

Let's just say, a fair amount of my Java was learnt thanks to this game.

Also, the graphics really are terrible with the origional, but it's thanks to the community that you can get effects like this:

I can't wait for proper mod support to be added. Mods will be much more appealing once they stop breaking with each update.

Also, for everybody complaining about graphics (which I actually like,) Texture Packs are a thing.

Ya redstone can be pretty fun and useful. I managed to get a door hooked up to a duel switch system so it could be opened/closed from either side. The circuit takes up a bit of space, but I hid it behind the wall.

I LOVE REDSTONE. They let you build nor gates. And from nor gates, you can literally build anything. I build a simple nor flip flop, then I was trying to build a LED computer screen lol. The only problem is that it requires alot of space. Oh and time lol. But with the new dispensers that can launch arrows, traps are getting pretty intense (put dispensers behind a wall of lava, FLAMING ARROWS)

lol i tried using dispensers, but the frequency at which mobs jump is equal to the delay of the dispenser >.< (in non-nerd terms: the mob jumps over the arrows!!!!!)

Hmm, taking a look at the videos posted (namely X's Adventures) there's a lot more complexity than I originally thought. I'll give it another go, and try a downloaded version.

And since it has been brought up, what is redstone?

Redstone is an ore that can be mined and will produce redstone dust when mined with a worthy pickaxe. Redstone acts like electrical wire, and will transport current produced by adjacent switches, pressure pads, or redstone torches. to make a redstone torch, open up a 2x2 or 3x3 crafting window and place redstone dust above a stick to get 4 redstone torches.

And also, a redstone torch placed on a block will be the opposite of any wires going into it. see my crappy little diagram

Thought I should share this:
Had a dream last night where I was at home in the living room, and then night came around and I was still there siting by the window. All of a sudden, a clown that was walking around outside saw me looking out through the window, and started walking directly towards the house. When it was within 2cm of the window, it blew up and I was left to fix the whole in the wall using cubes of drywall and brick!

If you play minecraft, you'll understand what just happened! lol

In addition to the 'creeper clowns', at one point in my dream I caught a glimpse of a walking cactus with human heads skewered on its needles O_o.

About caves:
I have this one cave linked to my house that I discovered one day. I went in and explored around for a few minutes, but when I decided to leave...that took me about 5 hours. When I finally got out, I sealed up the cave entrance and put up a sign warning not to dig in that direction lol.

I am obsessed with making sure there is no darkness, so I explore it very deep lol. What I ended up doing was building a compass, digging up to ground and then walking home lol.

I created my settlement quite a distance from my starting point, so I created a giant tower with a lava pool (behind glass) at the top to act as a lighthouse. Thinking of building a road from my spawn point to home (though it would be a extremely long one).

What cool things have you guys built?

The best I've done is a pretty complex little house with a tree farm, a sugar farm, and a wheat farm all inside it.

Other than that a few underwater palaces, (which take forever to make btw) and a lot of towers, stairs down to the bottom etc.

lol, I built twin towers, one has an up elevator, the other a down. it's actually pretty cool, it works pretty well. Boats automatically float, so if you put them in a waterfall, they go to the top.

And the down elevator is simply a pool of water, so the boat doenst break on impact.

Or you could use Zombe's mods. Some of his mods include a teleport block system (which I used to create Stargates Very Happy ), and also a flight mode. There are several more extremely useful and cool ones in the package as well.

As for that airship, I started making mine. It is on a titanic scale.
