I was wondering if anyone used or knew of a good tool to monitor internet bandwidth. Bell has way of taking it off their site from time to time.

Since you're connected to Bell's network they have no trouble monitoring your usage. Considering they bill you based on it, they'd better damn well be able to measure it.

For yourself, I dunno.

Except that Bell's monitoring has not been accurate -- http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2011/02/09/technology-bell-internet-usage.html

Bell's internet usage tracker may overstate the amount of bandwidth its customers use, the company acknowledged this week

Shulak, who was skeptical, installed his own data usage tracker and found that over two weeks, Bell's numbers were consistently 50 to 200 per cent higher. He noted that he has only one computer in his home and no wireless access.

The best place to count usage would be at your router. Some routers might have such options available, others would require custom firmware. I don't have specific recommendations though.

If your router is supported and you don't mind voiding its warranty, I highly recommend DD-WRT firmware.

I is ge-louse.

I'm not going to be changing anything on the router however. I'll investigate that another time.
