Laptop hinge delema

As we all know, older laptops that have been well used, have the certain problem where the hinge slowly develops a *free rocking* area. Now on my laptop there is about a 1cm free rocking zone and its really pissing me off. Any ideas for a fix?

Tighten them screws. My MBP started doing that. Wasn't hard to fix.

ok are the screws on the physical hinge?

Depends on your laptop model.

You may want to try lubricating it. A very liquid lubricant (think oil, not wax) should stiffen things up nicely. Don't worry about spilling on the boards, they're designed to be resistant to it.

I would use WD-40...

WD-40 is not a lubricant.

If you spray your boards with WD-40, it'll repel water so you can swim with your laptop.

You do realize that the hinge that allows the iMac display to tilt will probably wear out in the same fashion as the laptop hinge XP? (though probably not as soon)

That strictly depends on the quality of the manufacturer...

Alrighty, the my problem has been solved, it turns out that I can not adjust the tightness of the hinge, but that's fine, where the hinge itself was mounted to the computer case, the screws were loose, like one fell out when I touched it, nothing a lil bit of locktite didn't fix tho. Annnnd the wiggle is gone Very Happy

PS.
For those of you who think that WD-40 is a good lube to use, I personally will hunt you down and kill you.

I put WD-40 on my GT's skis. Beats wax or oil any day of the week.

I use it as a lube for a lot of things...waiting for you to come and kill me Mr. Green

I kind of think this should be moved to off-topic by now. But then my pathetic attempts to increment my post count will have gone to waste.

If a topic is moved to off-topic, all post count from that topic is reverted?

So....about the software for the Mac, is there pirated software? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080303213800AAhrQU0 ? Also, I heard from a friend that Mac checks your registry each time you run it and kills all the pirated programs...

Right, it doesn't have a registry. Does it check all the programs then?

OSX doesn't care if the programs are pirated or not. Any anti-piracy measures are up to the developer. I'm not sure we should be discussing piracy here though.

I believe piracy is wrong, unless it doesnt hurt the makers, like pirating ancient games that noone makes anymore.
