Mixed up power cables for iPod dock... dangerous?

Hello! I had mixed up the power source cables for my iPod dock and a walkie-talkie charger, and a pencil sharpener. (I'm not very organized. Very Happy)

One of them said the brand on it, so I KNEW it wasn't for the iPod dock. So I got rid of it. Then I wasn't sure which of the remaining 2 were for which thing. I tried them both out and found that one of them had a prong which was a bit too long for the iPod dock. Some of the conductor was exposed on the outside, although it fit fine. The other one however, fit much better, not exposing any of the surface of the prong thing.

SO, I assume that the remaining chord is the right one for the iPod dock. It is a 12V 2.5A power source.

Do you think this is an unsafe assumption to make? Is it dangerous if it's the wrong chord?

Haha, thanks for your help! Very Happy

If you are worried, try searching google for the model number of your dock to find the technical specifications or user manual. It should state in there what the voltage and amplitude of the power source is. Then you can know for sure if it is the right one.

Check if the cables have different sized connectors (the difference might be small, hold them side by side.) If they do, the one that fits is the right one.

Check the power requierments for the dock and what the AC adpators are outputing. You don't want to very from what the dock states by much.

It is possible to destroy electronics by using the wrong one (there are some AC adaptors with the same sized connectors but diffrent outputs).

Very true, but it's always worth a check to see if they are different sizes. Much quicker than looking it up if they do happen to be different sizes.

Yeah, don't go trying random ones if they are the same size. Never a good idea.
