Fun with Telus Tech Support! lol

Okay, so I have a fiber connection in my place dedicated to my Servers via Novus, personally I find them on the top of their ball game for Tech Support. (Had so little problems I swear I have only called them three times in my life)

Telus is my other internet provider for voice, data, iptv. The tech support is fully employed with morons. Many times I had to inform this guy, my company has direct work with Cisco Systems that we do programming. And by the sounds of it, he had no idea who Cisco Systems was lol.

My problem with telus was some serous packet loss. He asks me to test the speed of my connection. I informed him once again, I am getting packet loss. NOT SPEED PROBLAMS! LOL. He asked if I can directly plug myself into the wan port of the Dlink Gateway that telus installed within my place (Located in a closet on the other side of the house). I told him that would not be able to physically happen. He then asks what switch/router do I use beyond the the gateway WAN. I told him a Cisco 6000. He said that may be the problem. But before I called, I analyzed the packets via the Cisco console and packets where making it past. So I told him that. So he said can we perform a speed test anyways. And this is where I got pissed. I said "Dude, look if my TV is still working that is directly connected to the gateway since it is IPTV and my internet is not working then it must be your problem not mine". And what he said made me laugh my ass off. "Uh, sir, I have no answer then" LOL!!! I asked to be transfered to a manager, and the manager transfers me to their TIER1 team, and finally I get some action! I just asked the guy, can you guys just monitor my connection for the next 47 hours to measure the packet loss or drop off's. and that was that.

But shit!, this is really pathetic that I have to push so damn hard and you have to be a TCP/IP network educated person to get some action, I feel so sorry for all the people that don't know how networks work. Imagine all the customers that spend half a day trying to get the telus services to work!.

Oh, btw. I was was waiting for 45 minutes to get to customer tech support.

"TELUS, THE FUTURE DOES NOT INCLUDE US" lol

It was probably a customer service person in China or India who probably transferred you to a real technician in Canada or USA. They're just told basic answers to common problems, such as: "Disconnect it, re-connect it, and try again."

LOL

The standard text support employees have a script they read off. Damn near every big provider uses them. Only the top support people have any idea what they're doing.

I always ask right away if I can speak to a manager. Tech support sucks...

I laughed so hard at that corriep. You get +10 points (but not bits because I'm hoarding them all for myself).

I do try. A little. However English is complex. And not my favourite subject.

I think another problem arising I have not previously looked into is people are losing proper pronunciations of words. This would make tools such as phonics near impossible.

No, I think phonics were always kinda useless.

It very much is useful, if you knew how to properly speak.

Err, not really, unless I never really learned phonics, which I could believe.

Perhaps it wasn't taught properly to you then.
Despite being in General Discussion, we should keep this on topic.

Of course. We should be talking about how terrible tech support can be. Like how the Best Buy repair guys are pressured to make customers buy computer parts.

I'm probably more knowledgeable at electronics than the Geek Squad employees. I think I would make one awesome Geek Squad employee because I actually know what I'm doing and I won't rip people off.

Except your employers would be mad at you for not selling enough stuff. They do stuff like that. (Which is why most of them don't know what they are doing.)

But then you would have a skillset to get a less soul-crushing job Wink

You have to realize that the whole pesonal-computer-"repair"-industry is an exploitation of the market where a certain demographic has more money than understanding of particular technology. If something happens and one can no longer use their computation device, the naive "solution" is to purchase a new machine. In light of that, it's quite easy to charge outrageous prices for trivial work.
