READ BOTTOM BEFORE ANSWERING POLL!
Now I'm sure being the geeks we are in Canada and it is true canada uses alot of electronics because of the cold ;p, you must have some funny computer related jokes. My favorite is from this de-motivational poster that says :

Five questions:
Do you have a cell Phone? if you do add a point.

Do you use your computer often? if you do add a point.

Do you play video games? if you do add a point.

Have you built your self a computer? if you do add a point.

Do you have more friends online (face book, msn) or in real life that you talk to. if you talk more to people on fb or msn, add a point.

Hmm, 2 points according to your quiz sheet there (cell phone and I use my computer).
I'd argue though that those two are easily countered.
1) everyone has a cell phone these days. Kids in grade 6 have cell phones these days.
2) My mom uses her computer often too, and she is far from "geeky".

I think I'm more of just a moderately knowledgeable person. I don't really even programme anymore, never really got good grades in school, don't own a blackberry, ipod, or any other of these new technologies.

Just call me a man of music and literature. One of many unique hobbies.

I got 2 points. I agree with Sniperdude that the first two are kind of a given for everyone nowadays. Awesome comics btw, made me lol. Very Happy

I don't think that playing video games or owning a cell phone has made you a geek for about ten years. Everyone has a cell, and plays video games, and I do neither. Yet, here I am on a CS forum.

A SQL query goes into a bar, wanders over to two tables and says "mind if I join you?"

Two strings walk into a bar, the first asks the bar tender "gives me a beer.euaoentuh',r.cponeuhaeosntuaqnkhoeuh" and segfaults. The second says "sorry, my friend here isn't NULL terminated".

Eight bytes walk into a bar, and says "make me a double".

An infinite number of mathematicians walk into a bar. The first order one pint, and each subsequent mathematician orders half as much as the previous. The bartender says "fuck it" and pours two pints.

Why did the chicken cross the m?bius strip? To get to the same side.

How can you tell when a programmer has had sex?
When he?s washing the pepper spray out of his eyes.

?Knock, knock.?
?Who?s there??
very long pause?.

?Java.?

Programming is like sex:
One mistake and you have to support it for the rest of your life.

A computer science student is studying under a tree and another pulls up on a flashy new bike. The first student asks, ?Where?d you get that??

The student on the bike replies, ?While I was studying outside, a beautiful girl pulled up on her bike. She took off all her clothes and said, ?You can have anything you want?.?

The first student responds, ?Good choice! Her clothes probably wouldn?t have fit you.?

I score 2: Always on my laptop and I've built my own computer. I think this is a very biased test though and I'm not voting in the pole.

I agree, the geekyness is too subjective for such a simple test. (Plus the fact that you are on Compsci earns at least a point. At least.)

@copthesaint: Your anecdote does not fit the larger pattern. From a wikipedia article about women in computing:
Quote:
Particularly in computer science, there has been a dramatic drop in women earning bachelor's degrees.

In my cs class the most females we had was 5, and that was an 11-12 split class.

Im not talking about university, so your argument completely contradicts itself. Yes, the amount of women obtaining a bachelors degree in computer Science has dropped, however This is a poll given to selected universities and not statistics from high schools. I know for fact that not ever a quarter of the people in my grade 10 and 11 computer class are going to take computer science in university. Generally there can be alot of women in a computer science class at high school level, since it is just another easy credit, and if you have great teachers everyone knows about, the course generally becomes more popular.

Comp Sci is a really easy course, but most women seem to dislike computers :/ I'm sorry if i'm generalizing here. One of you females might be one of those few who actually like computers, i don't know.

Ive found a way to adjust the time so the post are correct for the time posted.

I'm glad you cleared that up. This is, after all, the off-topic forum. Most of us are technologically illiterate and couldn't figure it out on our own. Incidentally, there are entire threads on that same subject, and the very designer of the forum to answer the question. I'm not going to bother pointing out that nobody even asked how to do that, though I inadvertently did just that now. Thank you for wasting your first post on absolute garbage.
