After all the video games I've turned top to bottom looking for hidden loot, I've found I've also taken this ability to real life and adore things like geocaching, thrift stores and adventures. How many of you got addicted to Geocaching? Ever found a hidden gem in the dumpster or "Roadkill" on the side of the street? Dug through the video game bargain bin hoping for a great find? |

I've found whole, functioning computers with monitors in a dumpster. I've found a Commodore 64 by the side of the road, waiting for garbage pickup. Then again, the dumpster I chose to dive in is the one that UW was using to dispose of their old computers, so... |

At the time, it was an orange dumpster left on the north side of East Campus Hall (it's on Philip St). This was a few years ago, and I haven't seen it since...I got a few nice old computers out of it, including a Sparc workstation with - I think - 1GB of RAM. I also saw a crew moving huge pallets (easily 4ft by 3ft by 3ft deep) of old 19+" CRTs out of the MC building by the loading dock entrance; I asked if they were bound for the landfill and was told "yes". If I hadn't been going to an exam at the time, I probably would have done something more interesting than scurry off to my exam. |

I've gotten lots of great things from exploring, thrift searching, and "dumpster diving". Great speakers, stereo receivers, a record player, 12-band equalizer, a gameboy pocket... Me and my buddy as a summer project would like to create a "go-kart" type of vehicle or some form of a seated, motorized kart from scraps. Need to find some time. |

That is also the location where UW holds their surplus sales (at least they used to), where they would sell off hardware, furniture, and random office stuff, at steep discounts. ~ once a month. Cash (cheque and watcard) only. http://www.adm.uwaterloo.ca/infostor/surplus_sale_info.html Quote: Left over items from the last sale include:
