Emphasis on individual marks

I am currently in grade 11, but just out of curiosity how much does University of Waterloo care about specific marks?

for instance if I have a 98 in compsci, a 95 in computer engineering but a 50 in math? (using these as an example, not my actual marks)

assuming I applied for compsci or compeng...

thanks and any help is appreciated! (most advice too)

I've split it out of the other topic, as this reply didn't really fit the topic.

The question has been discussed before -- it typically uses examples of scenarios of decent average with low English mark, though I suppose any required course can be substituted just as well (non-required will likely just not make it into the top 6 application marks).

I am not an admissions officer. Currently, nobody on the forums can tell you how the decisions are made, or how any particular set of circumstances will play out.

Though in short -- required courses for a program are important for that program, and could receive special consideration. You are typically better off with a slightly lower average and solid average across all courses, than higher average but low marks in required courses.

If you have 50 in math, Waterloo is the wrong choice.

I think most comp sci programs would destroy someone with a 50 in high school math

High school math marks are a much better predictor of success in UW CS than high school CS marks. I cannot speak to the situation with CE.
