I was wondering if anyone worked or knows of someone who works for a restaurant like Pizza Pizza or Quiznos that has an website for ordering food online? I want to know whether every restaurant has an internet connection for receiving the orders, or if they have some sort of VOIP system in place to take the orders by phone. I suspect it is the former option as it seems like it would be far easier to use. |

As far as I know, no restaurants use VOIP to place orders, if you have VOIP software, it's rather cheap to do to phone calling, so it would be more or less useless, I know some Dominoes have a form you can fill out to order a pizza, if that's what you're asking. |

Here in thunder bay, Pizza Pizza, Dominoes and Pizza Hut will take orders threw there online system where it is just like ordering anything else online (tho you don't have to have a credit card as you can select to pay at the door noramly). I am not sure how it works in the back end but my guse would be that the orders go to a centeral location for the company elroticaly and then they are sent to the apropite local outlet/resutiont. I am not sure how they send it to the local resutionor but my guse would be they either have a call center that calls up the local place or a eloritcal fax type system (either a fax mashecen or a computer set up with an internet or internat conection to recvie the orders and print them). Having some one at the cenertal location place a call would be the most low tech soultion and it would not suprise me if some of them used that method, however some kind of VPN or intarnet (likey over the internet) would be the most effeicent assuming you could keep close to 100% uptime on it (peoleop get mad when they don't get there pizza). I would be suprised if they where using VOIP at all unless they use it for all there phone services. In any case you don't need VOIP to order pizza online (tho if you had somthing like skype out you could call them with it like a noraml order). |

I hadn't thought of them using local call centers. That makes a lot of sense. Also, I probably worded my question badly. I wasn't asking if I need VOIP to order food online, I was just wondering how the server would relay the order to the store. When I said VOIP I meant some sort of Voice Synthesis system to phone in the orders to the store. It probably wasn't very clear. Either way, my question has been answered. Thanks for the responses. |

Some pizza chains in the USA are aucataly working on outsourcing pizza orders so when you call up a local pizza place it will go to a call center some where and they will forword the order to the local shop (i guses the idea is they don't have to pay some one at each local shop to take orders). |
