finally! I've been waiting for this thread for weeks. Pittsburgh, even though I want Detroit to win. Pittsburgh's on too much of a hot streak for Detroit to take it |

I HATE GARY BUTTMAN Ontario deserves another hockey team specifically in Kitchener-Waterloo |

Kitchener-Waterloo? dont you mean Hamilton? because if Jim Balsillie eventually does win, and purchases pheonix, they're moving to Hamilton. |

If another team is coming into Southern Ontario, I'd hope it would go somewhere like London or Kitchener-Waterloo that has a bit of a population and a somewhat brighter future than the former steel town that is Hamilton. |

lol add a i to pens...Anyone??? honestly Professional Hockey definition: A bunch of whining un educated grown men who think they are under paid for skating in circles. Their final goal is to win a trophy that looks like a chrome polished piece of aluminum made in a Grade 9 Shop class. but it will probably be the chicken wings (second choice) edit: spelling errors T_T |

However, i agree with you on the fact that they get paid way too much. but the fact that they are un-educated is null, since success and intelligence are subjective. |

However, i agree with you on the fact that they get paid way too much. but the fact that they are un-educated is null, since success and intelligence are subjective. Well i adgree with you that there is no relationship between skill (in a sport) and intelligence (for good or bad) i think ecookman's summary of hocky could be seen as vaild form an objecvtive stand point if you don't count the uneducated part and just say low intelligence required. The whining dose fit some of the player stikies and demands for larger and larger amoutns of money witch has effected hole seasons and they do litterly skate in large circles if you average it out (fallowing the play back and forth between to two nets). If we are talking about the NHL then beyond just making money witch is the goal of the hockey team/franchies it's self then it could be seen that the goal of the team is to win the cup witch is not the most prity thing in the world (tho i can't speak to what it is acuataly made out of with out some research). Obvesly the cup is only a symbol and they are playing for the fame and pripe of wining but winning what? A contest to put a puck in the a net more then all the other teams. Personaly i don't think playing a sport should be a vaild way to make a living in socity however i also don't understand why peoleop pay so much money to see it so you could aruge that in a free markt if peoleop are willing to pay for it you sould be able to make a living selling it realtive to the demand and supply asuming it is within the law of that country/market. |

ur entitled to ur opinion... but ecookman's post sounds more like jealousy to me, rather than genuine concern... True athletes at the professional level are most likely to be arrogant at times, but what makes u different from them? I guarantee at one point or another you have flamed some newb or held yourself to a higher standard because u may think that you're more intelligent than someone... Welcome to Canada, this country runs on hockey. |

I have to strongly disagree with ecookman's generalization of hockey players. Education is definitely something that is relative. I guarantee you that they can teach you something about hockey, golf (every hockey player is a good golf player-well known fact), working out, wheeling broads, and many other things. Sure they may not be able to write a computer program like you, but I'm positive you can't do the things they can. Also, just because not all of them have a university degree does not mean they are uneducated. It's also important to note that quite a few professional hockey players do have university degrees. I also disagree when Dan says that he doesn't think playing a sport should be a valid way to make money in a society. It does serve an important purpose, it provides youth with positive role models. It's important for young people to look up to people and have a hero, it also provides them with hope ('one day I can be a pro'). It also encourages, and reinforces positive life choices such as staying fit, and being social. |
