Hi alls i just installed windows 7 today and i been playing around w/ it. i wonder who else has it, and what they think of it?? i never used vista so im having a hard time finding simple things that used to be in simple places in xp. the new task bar is weird... it seems to like to treat quick launch icons and taskbar items the same. for example, if i click on my firefox quick launch, the quick launch then becomes the taskbar item for that instance of the firefox window. so if i click it again it does not open a new firefox window, it just brings focus to the old one. i wanna use this windows 7 but i want simple things like the task bar to be like it was in XP. also the control panel seems to have no "classic view" its just the werid links view that acts like a webpage/semi-folder. also where are the folder options? did they just compelty get rid of it? or hide it somewhere werid? |

How to get the old XP/Vista taskbar back in Windows 7 may help with the task bar issue. I think I went throught this kind of change in going from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95 and from Windows 2000 to XP. Is it simple things that you want or do you want things to be like they were before? Simple things can take some time to learn as if you have never baked before, what may be simple for a chef could be a ton of work for someone just starting to cook their own food. |

Folder Options Pressing alt will bring up the File Tools Options menu your so used to. Ctrl + N will open up a new Window in firefox. Control Panel View By in the top right of the explorer window. Instead of being set to category, set it to icons. |

There's no need to bring caps lock into this.
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR IT FOR A LONG TIME...PLZ WHAT IS THE LINK It's in the most obvious places ever. There are at least 2 methods to get it.
If you can't find it after I mentioned the above I don't think you're qualified to try it out. |

Windows 7 RC should be released on May 5th for everyone to download, in case you missed the Beta. I've been using the Beta, Build 7000 and so far I find it pretty good. Its a definite improvement over vista, load time have improved, speed as well and it seems my file transfers no longer take a day to complete anymore! As well they improved the start menu search, it searches pretty much my entire hard drive almost instantly (without needing me to enable caching for it). Overall I am liking it. Though I have gotten a random BSOD once and the GFX drivers that NVIDIA released (I guess its not M$s fault) caused a heck of a lot of problem, so I am using the Vista beta release now and it seems to be doing great. I'm glad though in Build 7100 that we will be able to disable/remove IE completely! Woot. Right now IE8 is as always a pos. P.S. I used vista, I guess that's why my transition wasn't a hassle. |

Clearly you are living in a dream world... and not a good one like the Matrix. ![]() It would be nice if there was a a filter on that sort of thing though... if your post contains > X% caps or any number of commonly purposely mispelled words it wouldn't be posted... hmm |

I got windows 7 from MSDNAA through my school, and installed it on a virtual machine on my mac, it looks nice, but windows to me doesnt seem like a practical os to me anymore. it was fun to play around with though. |

I've been using the Windows 7 Beta since it's launch and I'm loving it. OS X is still my main OS, but I think it's better than XP when it comes to my Windows programs. Plus it has nice eye-candy ![]() |

I found Vista was just as fast without indexing search or the hard drive.
I'm glad though in Build 7100 that we will be able to disable/remove IE completely! Woot. Right now IE8 is as always a pos. Also you could always remove ie but for Vista I didn't think it was worth it it is too much a part of the OS. Why would MS let you uninstall it, I guess people who want to uninstall it don't use it anyways, what about Windows Update and Download site will they let other browsers use them or will you need to reinstall ie Also there are some programs which don't follow your default browser and always use ie I wonder if they will just crash. |

Regardless the legality issues of the happy place, it's simply too much of a security risk. I don't particularly care about _your_ security -- that is your decision. But if you end up letting arbitrary malicious code run your system, that affects the rest of us as well. Besides, Microsoft is giving out legit copies for free as it is, you just have to ask. |

Well now when you disable IE - everything, including the explorer will use the default browser set by you. So even typing in the explorer bar a website address will end up in your default browser. Sooo I'm guessing the same with the other programs. Windows update is now done completely via the control panel update checker thing. |

Happy place is the best! I'll probably pick up the RC from MS on the 5th. I've heard things about improved speed over Vista, which would be awesome, considering it runs at a snail's pace on my laptop. That, and I just want to check it out anyways, so it's a good excuse. |

IE in windows 7 annoys me, when I go to the google analytics site it crashes the browser when displaying graphs. Otherwise I mostly like it. Some minor problems when trying to play some of my video games, but definitely not more than in vista. SLI even worked months ago when I first installed. Been running win 7 since the beta or whatever it was came out and don't have too many complaints. |

The nice thing about Windows 7 is that if you have the 32-bit version, it uses most of the XP drivers. I installed W7 on my MBP and used the Bootcamp XP drivers on it. |
