well, like the title says, I want to know what you guys think would be the best game ever.

my ideas:

- Open ended sandbox game, similar to GTA4, with a PIRATE theme, taking place during buccaneer times, with an M 17 rating of course Wink
- Role Playing viking game, featuring epic battles with THOUSANDS of on-screen characters and the minigame of village pillaging, also M 17 :p

If you basicly made Fallout 3 a MMORPG and added a better sotry line i think you would have a killer game as long as you could blance it and have both sole and group play options.

Also a pokemon MMORPG game would be rather impersive (yes i like the oringal pokemon games :p).

Tho for both of thoses you need to stay far away from dumb get X of Y type quests.

I like Zelda alot and i think the best thing you could do for that is just make it harder and alot longer (many dvds worth of content long). Also a few sotry improvments and i thinky you would have one of the most impersive singal player games. Maybe throw in some local co-op play too (bring back 2nd player playable tingle!).

I think so too. So I'll contribute this.

While it may not be a 'perfect' game, I would like to see a FPSMMORPG. an mmo and FPS in one. oh yes. And it has to be set in the warhammer 40k univers. No, 40k online doesn't count. It's not a FPS.

I hate to say it, but you're wrong. Wait, who am I kidding?

Anyway, back to the topic. A FPS that does not take place in WWII. What's so interesting about WWII? Not sure what else to add in there.

I had another idea, after massive amounts of caffeine last night and an all night session of mass effect. A FF style RPG set in modern day times, with modern day weapons Very Happy

So on the topic of this, it does remind me of a game I'm working on (it will be a proper 3D game made using Python and C++), it will be a cross between a FPS, and an RPG. So a network multiplayer shooter combined with RPG ideas such as upgradeable stats (all that effect your game play) as well as equipment. Should be fun whence done.

I was thinking of also adding a type of MMORPG type of marketplace, where players can make clans, sell and buy goods with the local stores, or even buy and sell with each other.

I played TR form eraly beta to the last day, it was a great game but it was not realy a FPS. It had guns yes but there was no real aiming as the hits where determined by a roll as long as you where point the thing in the right direction. It was good but had alot of problems from day one and NCSoft did not realy care much about it so it did not get much antation threw it's self. It was rather sad as they just put mechs and other fun thigns in it.

Another great dead NCSoft sifi MMORPG was auto asualt witch was a MMORPG with heavely armared cars and a almost comptely discrutable evniroment. Sadly it also suffered from NCsoft not caring about it as it was not a korean style grinding game.

Looks just like Lineage 2. But then again, all Korean grinding MMORPGs looks the same to me. They're pretty much all the same, with some minor differences in gameplay and a different storyline.

I would really like to see a space-based MMORPG, but with a simulation-based combat system, none of that point-and-click crap.

One game I'm really looking forward to is Infinity: The Quest for Earth. The game, however, is being developed by one guy, so it's taking a REALLY long time. I've been following this game for like 2-3 years now, and its still no where done.

The other game I'm looking forward to is Jumpgate: Evolution. My only beef with the game is that the ships aren't that customizable.

I also think God of War online would be pretty awesome, although definitely weird to set up, since you can't really have a million Kratos' running around killing each other Laughing

Post subject:  RE:Your Perfect Video Game

To refine my idea of a perfect game:

I want complex dungeons with hard puzzles and npc interactions in an open ended environment (like in A Link to the Past and Majora's Mask), REALLY REALLY epic boss battles (like the ones from Shadow of the Colossus), the brutality, presentation and epic feel of God of War (heck I wan the same person to narrate the game), and finally the difficulty and the combo system of Devil May Cry 3 (games these days are way too easy, back in the day we had games like contra).

Good pacing is very important, by having just the right amount of action sequences, puzzles and exploration, and spacing them out well (this is a big one since I find that a fair number of developers don't do a good job of this). It should also have a variety of weapons and gadgets (gadgets that mainly for dungeon exploration ie. the hookshot and lamp from Zelda).

Also a mythological setting is preferable, as there is more room for imagination there imo, and mythological settings have a certain charm that other settings don't; to me they feel larger than life.

The story should have a theme of redemption, but right now I'm not fully decided on story, other than it being epic (not necessarily complex).

Graphics to me isn't really important, but having a unique and innovative style would be pretty cool, like the style in Okami. Realistic graphics get boring and lack imagination.

This is an action-adventure-rpg. A stealth component is a bit overkill, so this is good enough.

I don't really care about a multi-player in console games (especially in games like God of War, Devil May Cry and Legend of Zelda), so the main focus is in the single player game.

Post subject:  Re: Your Perfect Video Game

My perfect game would be an a sort of RPG and strategy. Essentially, there are different levels at which you can play the game. For example, say you are at the city level, you can then play it like SimCity, but say you want to switch to micro-level in which case you become a person roaming and doing stuff in the city. The point of the game would be essentially fighting other cities/worlds for supreme power. You can however, continuously change what level you play in so you could go, from commanding a group of units to attack, to being one of the actual guys fighting.

The game would of course be supported online (fix battles at a certain level) but AI would also need to be well developed so that they change their methods of playing as you play so it is not the same thing. Also, if the user is playing at a certain level then the computer manages your items with some sort of intelligence that reflects what you would regularly do.

As for a campaign, have the ability to create custom ones and share it with others. Never force the users to do one campaign and then have to play online.

The game is then essentially Battlefield at the smallest level, CNC at the next level and SimCity on the biggest level (Although it would be interesting to play God at a higher level and so you are controlling each of your worlds). Additionally, it would be awesome if you could get a real physical simulation on all levels. On a side note, it would be interesting if you could also add a different feature which allowed for you to progress in time, essentially giving new technology as time progress and so you could go from cavemen to space colonies (like Spore in a way)

Too Human?

Post subject:  Re: Your Perfect Video Game

It starts out in cowboy times, in space of course. Then suddenly ninjas, thousands of them. You are John, a lone pirate hell bent on stopping the space-marines from using your home planet's natural resources. You are partnered with Peter. A sassy, depressed leprechaun and butt-buddy piece of fodder who both loathes the very fiber of your being but also enjoys pie. Now to keep things simple lets call the plot A.

Plot B starts out in the not so distant past where carrots and iguanas enslave the human race. Man-kind's only hope is an avocado and his family. Luckily it finds a lost weapon cach? of the ancient greeks conveniently in his backyard. Now the sea-iguanas are pissed at this (did I mention they live in the water, well they do) and they counter this with state of the art harpoon technology.

Now here is where the plot thickens. Ninja's only weakness is an avocado with a harpoon, but to do this, Mitch the Avocado must trade his cach? with that of the sea-iguanas. But before any of this can happen, Peter finds a stale piece of carrot-pie buried deep in the depths of John's home planet. From here it is an all out war of tetris-bricks to save Leprechaun kind.

Now, the gameplay is a different matter. The game is divided into two main gameplays. The first plays like a Real Time Space Invaders RPG. The twist is that the whole screen is orange in this stage. The second stage plays like a MMO First Person Puzzle game. The twist of course is that it is single player for some reason and it is in second person POV.

And if you have read though all that I congratulate you!

Or just some kind of online FPS with a good community

What I find interesting here, as a hopeful entertainment company founder is how limited the vocabulary for games is, among the public. When it comes to almost anything much older than games, theres a lot of common public vocabulary related to the field that people just kind of absorb.

Here's a question: why does the "dressing" of the game matter more than actual game design, based on what I've read here?

Dressing is the story, the plot, the world, the explanations you wrap around the game mechanics. Dressing is kings in checkers, the names of the pieces in chess. To a lot of designers, the dressing is less important than the game design elements, and rightly so. Making a rip off of say GTA and making a new dressing for it is well... it won't sell.

can't believe no ones mentioned sports games, FIFA for sure.

but as to an ideal video game i've noticed i prefer games where you have many real time ability and i dont mean like go to your menu and use this ability and that ability(world of warcraft) i mean more abilities in the form of mobility and getting around (prince of persia, Assassins creed, crysis), vehicles and aircraft are also always good, abundance of weapons and gadgets also good. balance is also important in case of online play. some innovative ideas also cool(portal, spore)
